I feel like getting the ud100, hifimediy, ele dac, or Muse dac... Which is the brightest?

Well I would go with the hifimediy - it has a superior DAC chip than the ELE and the muse and is also in a complete package with the usb cable and the plastic shell not like the naked ud100. Also supports 24bit/96khz.

I think the hifimediy, then I'll get something nicer and an ultra portable review Dac once it is made.

for the price i would go straight fiio e7

You probably mean the e07 as it's pointless for him to go back with the e7 when he can have 24/96 support. The fact is though that the hifimediy is the superior DAC and later you can always pair it with a decent amp.

no, they aren't. They sound the best to me but depending on the size of your ears you might have issues with the comfort. Also the headband is great, so you don't have to modify it as there are no comfort issues with it.

is it worth $20 to replace the earpads with pleathers? or 3 more bucks for velours?
Forget the pleathers and velours, those are old news. Get the HM5 pads instead. They make the S500s over ear and they are super comfortable as well. It also produces the best sound this way. It opens up the sound stage and it sounds to me like the sonic ability is improved even more.
