To me, it seems like the damping paper behind the vents under the diaphragm serves 3 purposes: 1: reduction of midbass to lower midrange, 2: Having a quick cheap fix for the backwaves resonance of the diaphragm and 3: getting more subbass extension by lowering the midbass through lower mids and tighter bass due to reducing airflow.

What you also get however if all the holes are sealed up, is a more edgy, resonant sound vs puncturing holes in it

I never understand why they use such thin wiring in headphones.

It looks to be 32awg wires.

I still think Sennheiser wins for the thinnest wires aka cat whiskers of all time.
