Beyerdynamic dt 911
From when Beyerdynamic started using neodymium magnets, lower impedance to work well with the new digital sources (CD players and similar), and computer simulation to design the enclosure.
Driver an enclosures is very similar to the later DT931

The interesting things, uniques to the 911 and 931 (and also the closed counterparts 901 and 831) are the side vents on the magnet, and a more open driver (the plastic vents on the back) that is also common with other models such as the dt531 dt150 and dt250 (although those have a different magnet).

That is really cool. I wonder if those side vents are intended to cool the voice coil?

Well, they probably do that too as the air moves in and out, but I'm not sure how important is it in a headphone given the low current involved. I think the main function is to allow the coil to move without having to fight the air pocket in the magnet gap. All the beyerdynamic I can think of have some sort of vents coming from the magnet gap, but this is the only (beyerdynamic) driver I know of that has a vent on the side instead of the back of the magnet.

How much time you reckon it took for R&D team to come up with this driver?

I wonder if they gave it enough power? Not enough will often cause loose bass. So many people nowadays just plug stuff into their cell phone and then wonder why it doesn’t sound very good.

I dont think so. The guy has gear and he builds headphones with 3d printing for a long time.

Ah, gotcha.

Of course there’s many other factors involved too, such as cup size, shape, volume, dampening, venting, driver distance, driver tuning, etc. Any of those that are out of whack can make even the best drivers sound like crap.

I guess I’ll find out how good or bad they are once I finally get around to doing my K99 and K100.

I asked him in the past and he liked the K88 and liked the K99 even more, so i found it surprising that he didn't like the K100.
K100 sounds like a tough cookie to crack, but i dont believe it's a bad driver. Maybe taste plays a role here as well.

Here is a new driver on the market. The V9 by Symphones and it rocks! They are in Fleasbaby Cocobolo cups and sport Grado G cush cushions. Excellent bass and sub base and tonality across the board.

Any idea if those are 3D printed driver grills?
And are they stock or custom?
Look pretty open to me, shouldn't have a strong (if any) acoustic-lens / tuning effect by the looks of it.

SR-5.jpg
This is a driver from a SR-5 I bought. The headphone was sold as "great condition" but was basically falling apart so I took out the drivers with the intention of creating something with them. Stators are the same as the ones in SR-X MK3 if I am not mistaken. The marking on the stator is most likely from discharge while overdriving the headphone.

They are 3D printed. The Symphone website has all of the details, plus Rhydon the creator of the drivers hangs out here on Head Fi. So he might weigh in on them.

Ifi you are lurking into those driver pics for a long time, also in some headphone threads, you are cooking something, something over ear

Naah, we wouldn't go this far. Yet. Or would we ?

On a more serious note, us luriking here and there on this forum means nothing in particular to be honest. Aside our own threads we're also seen in many such as this one, but also vaping, watches etc. In general stuff we like (or rather a person handling the iFi profile here on HF). If we have something to share re new products, Head-fi.org is the very first place we publish.
