I bought my x3 about a month ago and have enjoyed it greatly.  I have a question, and sorry to hijack the v3.0 discussion, but is there a way when I navigate through my music to see groupings under a group?   In other words, can I go to Genres, and then see artists or albums under the genres?    Now I see only a list of every song in the genre.

No, I don't think the UI is that robust to do that.  That would be kind of nice though.

here's a question:

How do i listen to all tracks from 1 artist? like lests say i have 4 daft punk albums. how do i listen to all songs from them on shuffle? theres no option to do this in category mode, you HAVE to use category mode the exact same as you use browse mode now.

was this not thought through or what? i mean fiio definitely improved the id3 tag support and the file numbering thing, but they seem to have done this by simply remove the entire menu that actually had the numbering problem.....

The hidden files in Unix-type OS's just have extra info about the stuff in your folders. I use a free utility called Eject For Windows on my Mac to eject my DAPs and mSD cards after file transfer. Might help.

A note of clarification, NOT all "Unix-type OS's have extra info about the stuff in your folders". Perhaps you should submit a bug report to Apple:)

And, just a note of thanks to the people at Fiio. Thanks for the continued, long-term support for the X3. A major firmware update this long after the device's release, and a promise of more updates is quite an exception in the world of small, reasonably-priced electronic devices.

Thanks for clarifying that, dustmos. It's been awhile since I stopped using Linux, so I guess I committed the sin of over generalization.

And I echo your kudos to the Fiio team for continuing community engagement and support of their products!

Since these are for the beta versions, I added a new report for v3.0. Bug #173 over on bugzilla if anyone is inclined to vote for it.

Trev, If you have access to 119 and 143 the correct thing to do was to to go into the existing bugs and change the version to 3.0 if the bug does still exist in 3.0.  Otherwise we will have a bunch of duplicates bugs posted.  Not sure if you had access to 119 or 143 or not...

Joe's in the process of updating outstanding beta bugs to 3.0 on the bugzilla. Might be good to eradicate the duplicate, Mr Trev.

I didn't sign up for the beta trials so I couldn't even see those posts. If mine does pop up as a dupe I'll delete it though.

On a happy note, I managed to run an entire battery cycle without a single freeze, crash, or glitch. Looks like the engineers got this one pretty tight.

My solution is to make playlists using my music player (including 'playlists' of just an artist), and sync them to my Fiio microSD by uploading each playlist to its own folder (i.e. the songs are all together in the folders)

This way, I can use the standard library browse features to find individual albums and songs, but still have pseudo playlist support by going to browse mode and just playing from the playlist folders.

Hopefully an upcoming version of the firmware will properly support .m3u playlists... :P

honestly, there are plenty of <200 dollar players that have far better artist/album capability than this player. i wish i would have stayed with an ipod classic, or even a touch. A workaround like this should really not be necessary....especially after a firmware overhaul

As someone that generally just shuffles everything, I don't usually have any issues.  Plus I don't have to deal with crap/bloatware iTunes ;)

And you sure aren't going to get any iPod with a decent enough amp to barely drive HD800..! :P

Of course, if you're somebody that does often browse their collection and pick out songs or artists, then honestly your best solution is probably a smartphone with media player amp and something like the E18, as you won't get any easier navigation and functionality.  Poweramp on Android is simply glorious.

X3 isn't for everyone, though as Fiio's first media player I don't blame them too much for missing things.  They clearly came at this from the dac/amp development mindset, where what mattered most is the audio performance and everything else goes on the backburner :P  I'm just glad to see them continuously iterate and improve every time!

yeah, im super impressed with the connectivity and whatnot that the X3 has to offer but the UI so far has been a complete joke. list-style interface was far more preferable to this boxy thing, though thats not a huge dealbreaker with me.

I actually just bought a 7500mah battery for my galaxy S3 so its basically a brick now with 3 days of battery life. no amp-strapping for me lol

Generally i listen to 1 album at a time so its not a huge deal but for longer drives i prefer to listen to artists on shuffle. queen, for example. or daft punk. some artists are just really nice on shuffle.

I'll probably just continue to let it gather dust as i have been. not much time to listen to music at work since im in meetings or on calls all the time, and when i get home i just use my HD650 or BW685 anyways.

Not possible in FW 3.0, see Bug #2 in Bugzilla which I updated according to the remaining requested features ('play all' options on different levels including artist)
