Based on what I know ipods, J3, XK are consumer grade; sflo2,ck4 are at another level, hm602 is the high end. What I want is something around sflo2,ck4 level but with better UI and 15+ battery life playing mp3 files, still not sure if x3 is able to achieve this.

Well said, i said many times before J3 is over-hyped, its SQ is not even close to its old brother x5 without EQ (EQ sucks big time like MSG additives in the food), a few little things J3 can brag like UI, i don't care too much, i don't stare at its UI all day long, UI like sflo2 is good enough, I prefer the company to spend more time on SQ and line/digital out, Anyway, i look forward to fiio x3, the only thing i wish is x3 should have larger internal storage at least like 16gb.

according to feiao..it's quite tempting ...especially i'm the kind of people who don't like to carry an amp around (or own one)..now i'm having power issue with my FA-003, my 3yrs old sony a728 is struggling to push the can...can reveal the specs??power output? and the frequency response graph if possible?? ..hope i'm nt asking too much =)

Hi,
Will X3 have "Replay Gain" feature? I make recordings and don't make it louder with lots of compressor-limiter. So replay gain is the only feature I am looking after.

sucks if the prices for this are as high as rumoured... i was thinking less than $100 or around that or value just isnt there,  ah well will wait and see but looks like sticking to the cube for now!

Oh please, E7 already cost about 100$. How can X3 cost less than 100$?
I think it going to be nice if it is around 150$, but 200$ is still fine.

Actually over in the uk you can pick up the e7 for  under 80.  Your not adding storage and your losing usb dac function etc so as i said (around 100)  it can be done very easily and ill cite the cube c60 and colorfly ck4 for getting into these price ranges WITH STORAGE.  Getting to 150 and higher is bordering on pointless as there is so much competition (unless your after very specific function).  Ill bet my bottom dollar it'll be under 150 by a quite a bit or will ultimately fail.  
 
I hope it doesnt, as anyone that knows me on here im a big fan of fiio and i like almost everything about this player they just gotta get the price right and i think they will.

You don't really seem to know a lot about hardware - yes, it doesn't act like an USB DAC anymore, but the essential hardware (The DAC chip and the amp section) is still the same inside X3. The big reason of the price increment comes from adding a good controller, which actually has to be supplied by a Chipset solution provider. It is not cheap to ask another company to design a chipset solution for you, even in China - not to mention FiiO picks an expensive company to design the chipset solution. If FiiO would settle for something less, like RockChip and its unstable platform, you won't be here complaining about price but the cr*py firmware and all the crashes on the X3 after it launches. You have some and you lose some!

Dont worry, i know more than i was letting on in the post before, i said you are losing the DAC  FUNCTION.... NOT THAT IT IS NOT THERE, I had no intention of getting dragged into another lengthy head-fi debate,  all i was meaning to the poster was that there is not much that they need to add that would warrant a rise to around $150 $200, even in regards to chipset they are not looking to price themselves out the market, you obviously have the inside track on it all clieOS but surely you have to admit that 150 is getting right into dangerous competitive territory for what is (only and mp3 player (sum1 has a go at that its a joke) it is not the 2 coming of christ)
 
pffftttt if you wanted great sound use a flaming cube c30/nanite n2 guts and put a new case, screen, firmware and HUGE battery! done and dusted!! however the x3 is going to be used by most in conjunction with an amp (probably the e11) people will be looking at the total cost of the player with amp for them and im sure fiio know this.
 
I for one am delighted they have gone against using the rockchips, as while i actually like their sound interface and firmware is huge for me, it doesn't have to look pretty just do what you say on the tin without glitches and crashes and im fine.  I do still anticipate some bugs when the x3 launches and thats not really a problem as im pretty sure fiio are not going to abandon updates like most generic chinese players.
 
Anyway long story short anything over 120 is pushing it fiio.

I didn't know the E7 was a DAP that could play 24/192 w/ digital output.  At $80 that's a steal.  Buy 2.

i still believe fiio will maintain its reputation for making product with a very good price/performance ratio. that is the reason why they still have fans out there, if now they're leaning toward a performance and bounce the price high, i don't think they can compete well with other products anymore
 
so, i'll just wait until fiio comes out with a price tag for this DAP, and i believe it should be very intriguing
