Probably just easier with a smaller size.

Ah, balls. But anyways, still want this :P. What is the reason to go for the smaller cards? No room for normal SD? Isn't normal SD memory cheaper/gb?

Was really looking forward to this player but its going to put my E7 out of comission :(
hmmm
will have to check the price of it closer to release date, would be great to have an all in one player/amp though

They aren't easier to change or keep track of.  Not unless you have a retinue of pixie assistants or something.

haha i am learning of this first hand.

I meant it'd be easier for the player. that and you can change the memory card for use in cameras, phones etc

I'm a little sad about this too. Buy an E9 and just leave it in there

Then lug around your X3. :D That's my plan

I realize I am a bit late to the party, but I have to say, after trying to find iRiver H120/H140's on ebay for the longest time and finding them all way overpriced I am very excited to have a DAP with digital outputs.  The fact that you are throwing it in with a decent little amp setup ala the E7 is just bonus for me.  This is potentially the kind of DAP I can keep through several iterations of DAC/AMP combinations.  I apologize if this has been covered, but does anyone know how future proof the MicroSDHC implementation will be?  I have read there are compatibility issues expected for sizes greater than 32GB and I want to be sure I will have the option to move upward towards the theoretical maximum capacity of 2 TB (Obviously I am more realistically concerned with 64GB and 128GB)?

2 things.  You are largely referring to sdxc which would need to have firmware updated to allow the use of gen 1 sdxc cards.  About a week ago someone, I think Lexar, released a 64gb and 128gb sdxc card but not micro sdhc.  In theory it should be supported if the X3 is allowed to support it.  Same will be true for all gen 1 sdxc cards.  Here's the rub.  Next gen sdxc cards, which are right around the corner, will add another pin to increase transfer rates.  When that happens the X3 will not be able to support those gen 2 cards.

Indeed, though the theoretical limit for SDHC is also 2TB it looks like the standards won't support it, thanks for the info!  So will the X3 suppor SDXC cards then?  Even if they are only first gen I imagine it may work similar to CF cards wherein you can still purchase slower speed cards so hopefully there would be a continued availability... For a DAP I am sure speed is a non-factor.

Can't wait for May to get here - any word about a definite release date?
