I have better DAPs (like FiiO's own X5III), but when traveling - I still prefer the X3II. Built like a tank, perfect size to just put in my pocket, and for $100 - I would actually consider a 2nd one for myself
I'd pick the older X3ii over the new model due to more output power and the bigger battery. The only advantage the new model has IMO is the balanced jack, if you're into that.
I see, but the Fiio x3 II should output the dsd to a straight PCM file that is 24/88, not DSD, the Fiio converts to pcm on the fly with dsd 2.8 files (not with dsd 5.6, processors can’t run fast enough to convert it to PCM on the fly). This is only when you select d2p as the output.
When choosing D2P using coax out, DSD64 is supported via conversion to PCM 88.2kHz/24bit. When choosing DOP, DSD64 is supported and the output would be DSD instead of PCM.

I have a Fiio X3 mk2 which I love. I am away on holiday in the USA and while here have been using my Fiio via USB in a 2018 Ford Mustang hire car. The Fiio has been working great and all the songs can be accessed via the Ford Mustang touchscreen and played through the car stereo.
I have just gone to use the player on its own and unfortunately it isn't working properly at all, the Fiio boots normally but when I try to play anything by browsing the Album or artist the Fiio just freezes. Also the options to reset the media library or even manually scan the media library don't work either and nor does the option to check the Fiio firmware version. Some of the other options to change the display style or output level etc do work. I am using Sandisk Ultra 200GB card which has worked fine for the past year. The Fiio is recognised by my PC when I plug it in and I can see all the folders of music on it via Windows Explorer and I can even play the songs from the Fiio on my computer.
I just tried to do a fresh firmware install using my current micro SD card with music on and it said firmware update successful but the problems with not being able to play tracks when using the Fiio on its own are still there. I've now also gone and bought a brand new Sandisk 32GB SD card from a local store and formatted the card in the Fiio and again done a 2.0 firmware install which said successful but still the machine won't work freestanding
I have selected the return to factory defaults option and it's still the same and have also tried using a pin to manually reset/reboot it.
I have also tried to use the Fiio without a micro SD card in it and still the same problem.
Can you help? I'm really keen to be able to enjoy my music again - especially while on holiday! There's a swimming pool waiting for me to sit beside it and I'd love to be able to listen to my music before flying hojme to the rainy UK on Tue night!
PS I have emailed Fiio support last night but no response so far

Just wanted to say I fixed the X3 mk2 by downgrading to 1.6 firmware and then upgrading again to 2.0. Thank goodness Fiio keep earlier firmwares on their website!! Might help somebody else with similar problems though.

I bought an X3ii second hand.(right now it's still in transit) I'm curious how is the battery after 2(3?) years of use & how difficult is it to get a replacement battery for it?
