The SR-003s are entry level. You can get a pair for less than $150.

How do those sound anyway? I was eying them earlier but they look uncomfortable so I passed them up and went for the SRS-2170 instead.

A lot of people find them uncomfortable, I dont.
 
I would say they are 'warmer', and lots of bass.

This. I've considered taking two Lambda pads and gluing them together since I have three different pairs.

You don't need thicker pads, just a make a plastic cut out shaped baffle or material easy to work with sandwiched in between the pads and the metal plate of the earspeakers.

Lambda pads don't have lips because they're flat and you literally tape/glue them onto the unit.

This is a good idea. If someone made something like this, I would definitely buy it just to try it out. Have you done anything like this before?

Definitely need more people! Where's all those guys who own HD650 or DT990 or K701 who want to upgrade to something better?

In other news, I have recently purchased an electret/energizer combo on eBay ($65 shipped) and am likely to do a small review comparing my SR-303 and SRM-1/MK2 (and a few mixes and matches).

I wouldn't say this is is spoiling the main Stax thread, I always found the main Stax thread hard to get into if you just want an introduction to Stax and entry level Stax systems.
