Thanks for the detailed response K_19!

So apart from the SRS-2170 combo, are there any entry-mid level stax models worth looking at (like the 407/507)?

The SR-003s are entry level. You can get a pair for less than $150.

How do those sound anyway? I was eying them earlier but they look uncomfortable so I passed them up and went for the SRS-2170 instead.

Oh the Wee is from Woo Audio? People in the other STAX thread failed to mention it...and I was going to say Woo Wee for no reason.

I was going to call out for a High Voltage Woo Wee Kevin Gilmore Solid Blue Hawaii State Electrostatic Amplifier (read: HVWWKGSBHSEA). XD

Will Woo get a Woo Wee?

Sorry... couldn't resist

Is it possible to make even thicker pads for the Lambdas? Anyone try DIY?

Now we just need some more people, and not just the 'usuals' in this thread.

This. I've considered taking two Lambda pads and gluing them together since I have three different pairs.

You don't need thicker pads, just a make a plastic cut out shaped baffle or material easy to work with sandwiched in between the pads and the metal plate of the earspeakers.

This is a good idea. If someone made something like this, I would definitely buy it just to try it out. Have you done anything like this before?

Definitely need more people! Where's all those guys who own HD650 or DT990 or K701 who want to upgrade to something better?

Yes, it looks like most of what we have achieved so far is just a splitting and spoiling of the regular Stax thread.

In other news, I have recently purchased an electret/energizer combo on eBay ($65 shipped) and am likely to do a small review comparing my SR-303 and SRM-1/MK2 (and a few mixes and matches).

I wouldn't say this is is spoiling the main Stax thread, I always found the main Stax thread hard to get into if you just want an introduction to Stax and entry level Stax systems.
