For those of you out there who dig hi-res formats (I am defining that as 24 bit, 96khz+), HDTracks is having a sale on Chesky Records. For my money and ears, the label consistently puts out some fabulous recordings; I personally like their music for the sense of depth and "being there" that seems to exist on almost all their tracks. Both the "sound/quality" of hi-res formats and defining what "sound stage" is all about are deeply personal preferences, but HDTracks has 50% off nearly the entire Chesky catalog.

I personally picked up the 30th and 35th Anniversary Collections (as they give you the most bang for your buck and the best of what they offer--imo). Both albums have mostly 24/96 tracks but there are some 16/44 and 24/192 mixed in there. There are exactly 11 songs that are repeated (Rebecca Pidgeon - Spanish Harlem, Got to Get You Into My Life – Christy Baron, Meditation – Ana Caram, Livingston Taylor - Isn't She Lovely, Elube Chango – The Conga Kings, Well, I’ve Been to Memphis – David Johansen & The Harry Smiths, Eight Days a Week – The Persuasions, You Haven’t Done Nothin’ – Jen Chapin, In My Time of Dying – CC Coletti, Down by the Riverside – Noah Wall, Cephas; Wiggins - Mama Let Me Lay It On You) but it leaves you with 114 unique, well-recorded songs for about ~$35 (each album is ~$17). If you want to listen to them before buying, both are available on Spotify. You do not need a promo code but you do need an HDTracks account and their desktop downloader to download their music.

I hate to say my first reaction to the widow of an audiophile story, but sob stories are suspect to me. How many audiophiles have a private collection of 5 pairs of HD 600, with box? The account was created in 2016, but it has very low quantity of feedback (tbh so does mine, because I don’t sell much). I have no proof or desire to make things worse for her if the situation is true, but be careful not to cause your own misfortune.

I just looked at the Senns more closely. Seems each one includes a different fancy aftermarket cable. hifi af

I nabbed one of the Sennys for a little over $200. I've been meaning to add a marbled HD600 to my collection, one of these looked like a great way to do it. I'm pleased. :)

Makes you wonder how many they sold at $999. Is it a $189 or a $999 IEM quality wise?
At this point I guess a $80 dollar set.

Looks like ultra low pinna gain.

I rememer trying these in 2018 or so and thinking the retail price was a stretch, and there have been huge leaps in the IEM market since then. In 2024 I would call $200 on these getting your money's worth at best, not a steal, and that's taking into account the accessory package included. These in no way compete with modern $1000 IEMs

I bought one. I think at $999 that was way overpriced. It probably competes at the $300ish USD range against modern day CHIFI hybrids.

FWIW, the AKG N5005 has 4 tuning options via nozzles, so it is quite versatile, can be tuned to your tastes. Very technical on the brighter nozzles, a bit sterile sounding, quite obvious BA timbre though. The brighter nozzles may be a bit shouty in the upper mids. This IEM is sub-bass focused (mid-bass scooped out), so those that want a huge mid-bass thump need to look elsewhere. Also quite hard to drive.

8 kHz is a coupler peak.

It has a semi-proprietary MMCX connector due to some cuff at the housing of the IEM, so not all aftermarket MMCX cables can fit inside. Comes with some cable adapters and a Bluetooth neck band too.

For $189 USD I would recommend it. Not at full price for sure.

K sorry for the slight derailment of the thread, but this was to answer the OP's question. Back to other deals.
