OK, maybe this is a one-time fluke. I was browsing Amazon and looking at the Master and Dynamic MH40 that someone else posted a few posts back. I was clicking through all the color combos and happened to see the black with blue leather (ok, not the most attractive combo) and it was listed at $118.76 but the $50 off coupon also appeared. I was able to check out for 68.76 + tax. Not sure if it will really ship though. I went back and tried it again to see if I could replicate the deal but now it only says "available from these sellers" for that color. Might be worthwhile to periodically keep checking back if you are so inclined.

Amazon Japan fulfilling the JVC "SOLIDEGE" HA-FD7 IEM for $37-44ish/color from a few vendors with seemingly decent ratings. They were ~100 at launch. New price makes them a solid budget IEM IMO, and a good grab for the JVC microdriver fans out there, I've been using this model as a beater set for 3-4 years now (admittedly mostly one-eared, bicycling on noisy roads... so my SQ perception not worth dirt).

They also have open box / used versions for $69.99. I ordered a "Used - Like New" unit from Audio Center, fulfilled by Amazon. The unit I received had no visible defects and appears to function perfectly. It adds just a touch of warmth to the sound in my opinion. I found that the single ended output starts to distort more than I liked at higher volumes. However, the balanced output sounds great to me at the volumes I typically listen to.

If you are open to buying used/open box, this seems like a decent deal to try out this interesting little amp. I think it makes a perfect compliment to my ADI-2 DAC / Drop THX 789 combo.

As of this posting, they seem to have six red units available at that price and more in black.

Just want to thank you once again for sharing your tip. This little red pocket rocket is a nice little addition to add yet another different flavour to my chameleon-like headphone. This little amp adds just the right amount of air and space to my HEDDphone. It really picks up the changes when I go from amp to amp or dac to dac.

When I ordered it, I didn't even think about the colour selection until after the fact but it was already ordered. So when I received it today, I was hoping for the red one since this was a 'fun-buy' and it just wouldn't be as much fun to me if it were black.

If anyone else is looking for a fun little amp, I recommend this one. And mine was the opened box deal for $69.99 too and it looks brand new.

Glad you are enjoying it. If and when you are ready to try another set of tubes, this is the one that is often recommended for this amp:

These have less distortion than the stock tubes, so it does clean up the sound a bit. To me that translates to less warmth but achieves it at a happy medium.

Those look exactly like the Voshkod tubes I ordered off of EBAY months ago. They've been my favorite. I ordered them from Latvia I think, roughly $10 for a pair.

I previously had GE tubes in there, and the Voshkods had less busy treble. The treble with the GE tunes leaked into the mids.

In any case, I thought both options were better than the stock.
