The Definitive SM45/55 are very nice speakers. And at half what they once cost quite a good deal.

Probably not an urgent deal because the price drops are caused by a model change and the replacements are shipping. So, prices have been dropping for several months (the SM55 dropped to $175 each in August and the SM45 $125...this latest drop saves you $50 a pair). Depending on how big the the stock of what have left they may go lower still.

The new models look to be significantly more expensive (D9 at $800 a pair and D7 at $500).

Wow. That new D series are truly ugly (to me).

I have a pair of SM350s in the bedroom, and the ELAC Debut B6s in the living room (Monitor Audio Gold GX100s in the family room, but they are in another class). I paid $179 for the 350s in 2014, and that was a deal then. I think the Debut B6s sound way better, but the SM45 are a little better than the SM350. I guess what I'm saying is that from a price perspective, the SM45s at $200 a pair is OK, but for $200 also take a look at the Debut B5 or B6.

Yeah, the new series reminds me of the speakers on those old Penny's MCS plastic mini systems...but I am old enough to remember that.

There have been quite a few great bookshelf speaker deals recently.

My choice that is at a great price now are the KEF Q100s for $250 a pair on Amazon. Same price drop at Bestbuy, where you can listen to them if your local store has them. From Amazon you get another 10% off if you pay with an Amazon Prime Card. The Q100s sold for $550 a pair until June when they dropped to $450, and just now dropped to $250. The discount is like the Definitives, because the replacement Q150 series is out.

Do you need a very slick Stereo Network Receiver to drive bookshelf speakers, AND your headphones with?
Sadly this is not a deal right now, but bookmark the link if you are interested because NewEgg has been running the Pioneer XC-HM86 CD/Streaming/Receiver for $200. Its normally $400-$500. It was on sale til midnight last night, and my bet is they will drop it again.

They were on sale for $300 for quite a while recently. $250 is even more amazing! They are definitely much better then the Pioneer SP-BS22LR or the Fluance Signature Series. But the bass/lower mids get a bit grainy, I couldn't get over that. I wish the Q150/350 still had a front firing port.[/QUOTE]

Accessories4less has specials running on some factory refurbished AVRs. AVRs are arguably as good or better than stereo receivers due to features like room correction software and bass management for subwoofer integration (which a sub is really needed for the KEF Q100s). I'd take this Denon over that Pioneer even if the Pioneer did drop to $200 again: https://www.accessories4less.com/ma...-ch-x-75-watts-networking-a/v-receiver/1.html

For $220, that Denon is a great deal. I have the step-up Avr920 with two additional hdmi inputs (but sounds identical from what I understand), and it's a great avr. I use it as my 2.1 stereo as well. I doubt you can find better for that price.

I also own the B6 and it's a fantastic speaker for the money. Stereophile mag agrees. Beware however as these as 6 Ohm speakers and not every system does well with less than 8 Ohm speakers.

This just in from my Buydig email ad: Sennheiser HDVA600 Headphone Amp - $600 after Coupon Code: LISTENUP These were originally $1500 but have been heavily discounted in the last 6 months. This is the lowest I have seen by a little bit.

(I think I truncated the link to remove any referral, but if I did not please message me the right way to do it).

The NewEgg sale ends tonight. Not sure when the KEF Direct sale does.

As of now, Newegg has all the colors of the M100 on sale for $29 shipped, and the white and Sunset Orange M400s for $79.99. The Racing Blue and Deep Black M400s are $249.99. I don't know how long that will last. I looked this morning, and only the Titanium Gray M100 was on sale. I checked again a few hours later, and they were all back down to $29.
