Don't feel too bad. The Q701's are Chinese made now and are horrendously built compared to the old Austria made ones. Anyone with an above average sized head need not apply.

Well I know about them being made in China. I have a pair of K7XX and build quality isnt bad but could be better. So far they been holding up well (I dont use them much but see the sunshine at least a couple times in a month)

Literally rebranded Denon D5000s for $470, $450 at lowest price.
Same drivers as the TH900!!!
The wood used for the cups also come with a variety of options, all of which (imo) look better than the Mahogany D5000 cups.

So, same drivers as the TH600 and MD-THX00 headphones too. Earcups and pads (and driver matching tolerance) make a noticeable difference in SQ, certain people pay more for refinements in those areas... But then, for many, they liked the sound signature of the THX00 better than the more V-shaped TH600/900, so it's always personal preference at the end of the day.

Drivers definitely are reactive to your audio chain too, sound quite good on Mid-Fi stuff but get much more full and rich-sounding with $1k+ amps. Heard an enjoyable sound with the Fostex TH-900 + HP-A4 DAC/Amp at CanJam RMAF October (I now own an HP-A4), but the same TH-900 plugged into the $8k Fostex tube amp right next to it made a VERY NOTICABLE difference and was one of the two (pleasurably) spine-chilling experiences I had at RMAF. The more I learn... the more I realize my endgame setups will have a much more expensive audio chain than the final headphones at the end.

Just saying, it's a good deal, quite pretty aesthetics, and I've heard EXCELLENT things from those drivers... but don't buy expecting identical sound as the Denon D5000. Might be more, or less, your preference. PM me I you get them and link to an impressions thread!!!

The TH900 uses a more powerful magnet in the driver than either of those; however, the actual driver design itself is the same.

The E-MU has the same specifications as the D5000, not the TH-900:

E-MU:
Driver: 50mm Neodymium magnet with Bio-cellulose diaphragm
Frequency range: 5Hz – 45kHz
Impedance: 25Ω
Sensitivity: 106dB
Max input power: 1800mW

AH-D5000

Type Around-Ear, Dynamic

Frequency Range 5Hz - 45kHz

Impedance 25 Ohms

Sensitivity 106dB

Maximum Input Power 1800mW

Connectors Gold-Plated 3.5mm Stereo Plug with 1/4" Adapter

Cable Length 9.9' (3 m)

Weight 13 oz (370g)

TH-900
Type:    Dynamic
Driver:    50mm dia Nd magnet
Impedance:    25 ohm
Sensitivity:    100dB / mW
Maximum Input:    1,800 mW
Reproduction Frequency:    5 – 45k Hz

TH-600
Type:    Dynamic
Driver:    50mm dia Nd magnet / bio-dynamic diaphragm
Impedance:    25 ohm
Sensitivity:    94dB / mW
Maximum Input:    1,800 mW
Reproduction Frequency:    5 – 45k Hz

Still, they're probably a good deal at $450. I like the wood options more.

How do you know it uses the same drivers as the TH900?
