The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)
Nov 26, 2015 at 11:42 PM Post #18,751 of 35,330
Having heard the th900 I'm not expecting a miracle but if it can get close i can at least experience it at my home and in a non meet environment. Unlike some, I have no problem selling headphones I don't like or gets old (look at my profile). So for the experience alone, to me is worth it -- if they happen to be keepers, even better.

Sounds good!  Hopefully you'll enjoy them when they arrive at your doorstep.

I'm exaggerating as in making them to be perfect headphones which is what many reviews are expressing, yours included. I've also been reading discussions on comparisons with Sony MDR Z7 or Audioquest Nighthawk. I've heard both of those, and if the TH-X00 are being compared with those, then it has no business being discussed in the same sentence as TH900 even imho. I have a trustworthy source who has heard the TH-X00 production model and told me it's more comparable to the HD650 and that the HD800 and Hifiman HE560 are superior. History has shown many things get hyped up, such as the Vali and also see Liquid Carbon.

For the price, they are amazing to me.  I'm sure that most will feel the same way.  You may not, and that is okay.  I personally wouldn't compare to the Z7 or Nighthawk for pure SQ enjoyment, but that's just me.  I could see how reviewers would compare the TH-X00 to other headphones in their stable, even though they may not feel the other headphones in their stable aren't as clear and coherent as the TH-X00 - without explicitly stating so.

No matter what the trustworthy source, nothing can beat your own ears.  Read my section regarding hype in my review if you haven't.  As for the Vali and Liquid Carbon or anything else that may or may not have been "hyped up", I could care less.  It's all about listening to it myself and making the determination how it sounds to me.  Also, there are so many variables aside from the one talked about audio apparatus itself that will most definitely vary impressions from person to person.

Am I the only one here that found TH900 to be a wonderful headphone?

Inseconds99...
This is the deals thread.

Its a deals thread that also has people giving opinions as to why or why not to purchase said deal. I was explaining that I'd rather go with an Shp9500 which was on massdrop and a SB X7 which is on sale through SB and Amazon and a boom pro for gaming then what he was going to consider. Rather then him buy something and not understand the ramifications of purchase. Not that big of deal dude, look at basically every post after my post, pretty similar.

Either way back to the deals, for my gamers out there Microsoft is running up to 50% off on Games http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/list/categoryID.70508600

I'm personally skeptical of these. I have heard the Fostex TH-900, and they were sibilant, the bass was always present, and they're not reeeeeeaaally closed. Massdrop says they've been retuned, but that just means that no one has heard them. I feel like they'll probably retain many qualities of the original. Plus, they're semi-open. I'd rather see people buy ZMF, whose Blackwood are incredible, and new Vibro MKII are apparently also very very good and more similar to the Blackwood than the old vibro. Right now they can both be had at a good price ($429 for Vibro MKII and $599 for Special Edition rosewood and zebra Blackwoods, even less for the regular. It is a steal). The only gripe I have about ZMF is the wait, but honestly they are the best closed headphones I've heard, and I've heard most of them.

On the other hand, I hope they are very good, as the market needs more good closed headphones.

Hell yeah those Vibro's are a good deal! hahah!

Seriously though this THxx looks like the real deal from everything I can see....I want one!  A t50 based headphone is going to sound way different than these based on the design alone though,  so people should probably buy a Vibro MK II and one of these to compare LOL!

Man - it's an awesome time to be into headphones.

Hype for me is not defined as not worth what you paid for, but defined as not meeting expectations from what you believe them to be. I even mentioned earlier I don't deny that these are probably great value for the price, but following the commentary and reviews, I can tell the expectations will be hard to meet. Luckily I will be able to listen to them without buying through my trusted source. Personally what's holding me back is that I don't need them as I already have the TH900 and also I'm sure it's going to be uncomfortable for me. Even the TH900 earpads have my ear tips touching and can get noticibly irritating after a while. Unfortunately it's been mentioned the earpads here are quite necessary to get the intended sound.

Hey Zach,

Really like your Omni's - they sound really good - warm and smooth for sure.

Check out the $399 TH-X00 if you can - it is the real deal in my opinion.

I agree, definitely a great time to be into headphones.

Hope to see you at the next Head-Fi meet!

Yes, try out the TH-X00 (with another manufacturer's earpads if need be) and let your ears decide.

Good luck!
