EDIT - Also I'm going to have to figure out how to rip 5.1 DVD-A to FLAC and pipe it thru my SBX virtual surround.  I have the "Deadwing" 5.1 and it's amazing.

He did a nice job on Gentle Giant's "The Power and the Glory".

Is it possible to open up the mids/highs with a different cable?

About as possible as summoning rain with a dance.  >.>

Anything is possible!

elodyne VTrue headphones at their website for $90-$100. M.S.R.P.was $349. Bass is awesome, mids and highs leave a bit to be desired but for the price,  they deserve a listen. Build quality is as good as I have seen (and I own 22 phones)

The X1 is a (very good) basshead lite can and the X2 is more or less a high efficiency HD 600.  What do you expect to improve/change with such an action--moving to the Senns?

Also many, including me don't hear the HD 700 as an upgrade from the HD 600 and/or HD 650.  It is different.  Some may like it better.  Some don't.

Well yeah, I plan to move into the Senns later on but if I were to have the X2 per se....would it be more of a sidegrade if I went with the HD600/650? and why isnt the HD700 much of an improvement?

And thats the reason why I need to look into those headphones because....well, its hard to choose which to go with later on....I kind of want to end my shopping headphones with the Senns.......

At least thats what I think lol

I already had the X1 but plan on buying the X2, Ordered the AKG K7XX, I have the HD598 but havent used it since I bought it on BF. I probably will buy 2 more headphones next year......I hope

oh wait, I also have a Sennheiser PC350 SE, Senn Momentum over ear, MA900, M50, and the A900X (which is still new in box) but probably will sell it since I dont think the wing system will work with me.....

But yeah.....

Ill be getting into Amps from here on out since I think that would make a big difference in sound overall.

I just wish I didnt have to spend so much money though lol but it has been worth it :)

have you considered trying out a different company? I actually like the HD 700, but wasn't a fan of 650. Something in the way it portrayed the texture of the sound made it seem slightly artificial to my ears (like all sounds had hard impact and then smoothed out). I prefer the Hifiman 400i to both, and I'm sure there are many other great cans by other manufacturers that neither you or I have tried. Good luck on the research, my recommendation is to just keep your eyes open to other options. Happy listening

I think the general consensus is that HD700 provides a much different sound sig as compared to the HD600/650s.
Some may prefer one to the other, so its more like a choice rather than a direct upgrade when comparing.
Whilst the HD700 is more capable, it's sound signature may come across as harsh. (which is why people dislike it)

Anyway, why not try a planar magnetic headphone instead?

The HD700s sound awesome to my ears and especially guitar strings sound so real. Comfort is top-notch and sound stage is expansive. I like it a lot even they sometimes can be harsh and fatigue, literally hurt your ears if listening to songs with bad recording and too much treble.

I'm still looking for perfect headphones which combine the LCD-2 sound signature with the HD800 sound stage.
