Is the newer version worth the extra $50? I'm thinking about one of these for a mobile rig with a MBP, but also considering an X3 for a DAP and portable DAC.

If you're considering more for the 1.2 (or 1.1?) then I would suggest going to a Audioengine D3. All reviews who've had both say the D3 surpasses the 1.0 by a fair amount.

Dammit. I was teying to order it, i was at work but it wouldnt add to my cart. Its gone now . Amazon has them for 75  plus y6 dollar shipping. 60 buvks was a good deal

the newer version is seriously better than  the original version! more liquid, better instrument separation, more power. well worth the extra moolah.!!!
but the original is better than any pc oem inbuilt dac chip...
