The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)

Got my M-100's in today. Very nice. Even though they were listed as Very Good with only damage to the packaging, they were kinda scuffed up. Since they dropped even more in price, I decided to return them and pick up a Like New pair for $148. That $16 difference is what I paid for the XL pads! :)

Oh and I tried getting a price adjustment, but apparently Amazon wouldn't let me. Oh well... lol

Ha! I should give up trying to sell my HD600! Who would have thought a year ago we'd be seeing HD600 for $224?!

I wonder if Senn will try to move away from such high impedance headphones in the next iteration. It seems thats a clear advantage other headphones (HiFiMan, Philips) have going for them.

If you go back to some old threads you'll see during the initial release of the 650's, maybe the 600's as well, the prices were anywhere from $200-$300 often. Then Sennheiser put that price restriction.

I wasn't able to resist myself from the momentum deal. But later came to my senses, sent buysonic an email and amazingly they cancelled. I was expecting a bunch of bs.

Huh? The 650's still retail today in Canada for $499 (or more)... Last year was the first time I saw them go below $350 US...

This year was the first time I saw the HD-600/650 drop below $300 on popular web sites.  I know some have been able to get great deals direct from Senn b-stock and black Friday deal last year but not at the under $300 price range as often as it is now.

Don't know what to tell you, it's the truth. Someone here can probably give you first hand experience. But I remember someone making a post on an old thread with a price history. The early 2000's maybe to 2006 it was consistently below $300.

In the early 2000's our dollar had significantly more value than it does today.

http://www.usinflationcalculator.com

A $500 headphone in 2000 would cost today $685.60
A $500 headphone in 2005 would cost today $604.50
A $500 headphone in 2010 would cost today $541.42

And here is the purchasing power that also takes other factors in consideration:
http://www.measuringworth.com/ppowerus/

So to purchase a $500 headphone today you would need to spend around $340-370 of 2000's dollars.

Regardless of what we look at, the dollar has around 30% +/-5% less purchasing power than it had back then - which is in line with global and historical trends of inflation etc.

However, some headphones that are around for some time, didn't get more expensive, they dropped in price. Which makes them double bargains...

I think - we live in exciting times, never in history have headphones been that good and that affordable for the sound quality we can enjoy.

Cheers,
K

No, it's not the truth. Also the HD650 was only launched in 2003. List price didn't change over time - if you have any proof of this let's see it. My own research found no consistent deals below $300 for that price range. every now and then it was around that mark $300 mark but certainly not a consistently below $300....

These days though - it's pretty amazing that we can find it for that price, which would translate to around $200 dollars in 2005 money...

Cheers,
K

That's a great deal.  I bet the store would match their online price (don't know for sure though).

Turns out Brookstone currently has a 15% cashback deal with Discover too (funny thing is, they list Beats as an excluded item on the 15% deal).

So if you have a Discover card you can get these at about $170 all things considered. Makes it pretty tempting to me just getting starting my collection since I'm curious to hear the v sound signature to see if I like that or not.
