Here is a cheaper and likely better option: A Lepai LP2020TI amplifier (https://www.parts-express.com/lepai...-stereo-amplifier-with-power-supply--310-3000) for $24.88 (on sale; regularly $29.88) and Dayton Audio B652 speakers (https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-b652-6-1-2-2-way-bookshelf-speaker-pair--300-652) for $39.80 or B652 Air (somewhat better according to the review in _Stereophile_), $49.00 (on sale; regularly $59.80) (https://www.parts-express.com/dayto...kshelf-speaker-with-amt-tweeter-pair--300-651). Both sold by Parts Express. Shipping not included. The Lepai 2020TI amplifier is slightly bigger than an Objective2 headphone amplifier. I drive an old pair of B&W DM600 S3 with the Lepai for my current desktop system. If your friend is looking for an inexpensive rig for music listening in a home environment, I recommend that he also buy some stands for the B652s.
