Philips X2 for $200 @Amazon is a great deal. They were already a good value at $300, comparing well against cans costing 2-3x more (Beyer T1s, Fostex TH600s, and HD650s/700s). Nice reference cans with fantastic mids.

Those who dig the Phonak PFE 012, you can get it for $29 from earphonesolutions  with code "XMAS"

I have the PFE 112 and love them.  Are these the same thing but without the extra filters and accessories as the 112?  If I put my extra grey filters in the 012, will it be exactly like the 112 with grey filters?

Oh I forgot about this complaint...yeah its the one and the same but I think this issue was an extremely minor one...if you held of for this reason alone you would be missing out on an extremely wonderful headphone for such a well.... non-issue in my opinion. I've had mine for about 6 months and have yet to notice princess Leia ring residue after removing them. Especially at 200...this is the best price/performance buy possible imo.

Would it be redundant to buy the x2 if one already has a bass modded K612 or stock K712?

I'd say go for it. Either of the three should sell easily, especially the X2 for what you are paying, should you decide to trim down later on.

I'm thinking more along the lines of sound, if it's close in sound then no need. Then again this is the deals thread..

Ah, I can definitely say that the X2 is rather different than the other two. Should be interesting what your thoughts are between the three should you decide to pick them up.

Are the Philips x2 an upgrade from DT770 (80ohm), HD 598SE, or m50x?

I have the Q701 and K7XX but since I got the X2, I dont really use them much anymore. The X2 is just a much more enjoyable experience to me. A fuller and more fun sound as opposed to a colder more analytical sound. Its an open back that actually has bass! In my opinion it would be an upgrade but at the very least its definitely not redundant.
