I'm sure you could find a buyer for the 4G these days. There are plenty of people with the same mentality - they don't want the lightning port. I'd imagine you could sell it for almost what you paid for it.
Ah ok. My mistake, only 5th gen is able to work with cck then?
If so, would I be able to keep it in that ios version? Or will the device update itself when I connect to itunes and or on wifi?
So is the HifiM8 fully balanced from the DAC output signal onwards, or is it partially balanced (convert single ended DAC line level signal to balanced signal via a (differential?) balanced amplifier)?
Only 5th gen iPod Touches can run IOS7. And IO7 is the only way for iPods and iPhones to use the CCK for audio. iPads could do the trick before the update...
+1, just tested my m8 with 5S and it works perfectly through cck. Seems a lot of people will be buying the lx now unless the bulk of the cck cable is a worry.
Someone will build an all in one by combining the cck & a short usb cable to take that out of the equation though. Probably should have got the LX!
P.s. hifim8 is killer

How do we draw something simple to explain what we're trying to accomplish and then ask someone to do that? If such CCK-capable cables were successful for both 30-pin and lightning connectors while being right-angled on each side, it should be feasible to make something similar for the upcoming Sony Walkman models as well.
It would be awesome if a custom cable from Lightning-to-mini USB plug or Lightning-to-micro USB plug could be made. Right now, the best one can do with off the shelf parts looks something like this:
The DAC shown is the batteryless HRT microStreamer.
Edit: For the HiFi M8, a Lightning-to-USB (full size) plug would be needed.
Any working cck should be able to be torn down with the appropriate usb cable attached instead of the female jack on the adapter. The main issue, as always, is making sure whatever digital circuitry necessary for the iDevice to recognize the cck is there.
I'd take a crack at it, but I don't own an iDevice and don't have $30 to burn if it doesn't work.

Just got my M8 (IOS version XLR) today and I can play from my computer through the USB fine and with the CCK out of my iPad mini/iPhone 5 with no issues. I can't play anything out of my iPod Touch 4G or iPod 5.5. I have updated all of my iOS devices but not sure why 30 pin devices won't work?

No current dock or device will allow digital out from older Apple devices. You need a newer iPod like the current 7th gen iPod Classic or any current iOS device.
