Don't really have time to mess with the impressions process overseas. It's just too much of a hassle. Also, I have another lead for the TWFK + whatever-else-the-Privates-are-using-driver config.  Still taking a heck of a long time to respond. No they wouldn't be the same implementation but I'd figure it'd be more fun to go against the grain and experiment. Plus it seems he has experience with clones.

Also, Butterfly shells....

I love dinosaur buggers. The next CIEMs I get, I'm going to get neon orange for the right side, and slime green for the left...

Would the 9-11k dip be irredeemable or could some good ol' EQ do it justice?

I find them tuning it to have a dip from 9-11k really interesting. Almost every higher end IEM I've heard very recently has had a peak in there to some degree.

I think the 122s are using the Sonion 2354 and the FR graph shows a peak around 9-11kHz. I've never heard much of a peak with those though.

What does that mean? It probably doesn't mean anything. I just thought it'd be neat to note.

Upon reexamination, I think what I heard may have to do with insertion depth --- the way CW demos are made are like the TF10, with a fat dome behind the nozzle exit that prevents deep insertion. As can be seen from this figure, shallower insertion of the PFE introduces a null between 8-11k:

I think that the custom version will sound different. Of course, as I mentioned before, tube length/diameter has a lot to do with treble peaks/nulls, and volume from 2nd bend to eardrum differs for different people, so YMMV.

The bass doesn;t hit hard and it doesn't go low either. Not exactly sure where it starts to roll off however...

But butterfly shells are soft and ethereal...

Hopefully you do mean the QDs. I couldn't take it if you meant the 51a. Did you get to try them out? Impressions? Am I being too pushy? :D

The 51a has the ability to hit harder and sustain longer than the QD, given the right resistor set. I would hazard a guess that the 51a has less measurable bass distortion than the QD as well. Surprisingly (but unsurprisingly from a design standpoint, as vented drivers do very well with bass extension), the QD has quite good bass extension; it's just not all that appreciable because the entire bass shelf is just not boosted.

In general, because of psychoacoustics, subtle roll-off below 50 Hz, while having a bass hump centered around 80-125 Hz will make things sound punchier and deeper than a completely measurably flat bass shelf. I had to test bass extension on the QD with a 15-200 tone sweep to appreciate the QD's bass extension.

From the looks of it, I think Canal Works does not filled the CIEM with Resin like FitEar and Guys please kindly check kumitate-lab.com . Its another company of CIEM in Japan which I believe the owner is also a Head-Fi member and DIYers of CIEM

I like to call them butterfly shells because that's how I've translated the term on Bark.jp's review.

Even if they discolor, I love the look of transparent with uber-complicated faceplates. Or non-complicated faceplates. What I'm saying is that I love transparency.
