I've followed your suggestions (lower around 9khz) and it is way better for my personal taste (-3 db)
i've boosted the low frequencies wuite a bit, for a more sensual sound
 
my EQ settings is
80 = +2db
385 = +2 db
1.1k = +2db
2.4k = 0
9k = -3 db
 
volume around 40
not BBE effects except Stereo Enhance +2
player = Cowon D2+

I have a little issue with the jack connector
 
sometimes I loose the stereo for a coupe of seconds
 
it's not a issue with the cable join, when I turn it in all positions, it does not affect the sound
 
Maybe I need to clean the contact with this kind of spray :

Maybe try wipe with your fingers? I once had that, and it turned out there was a little piece of sticky glue that had somehow stuck on.

Hi everyone!

Being new to this post and to headfi, I am happy to find a post on the DT-250 headphones.

owning a pair myself (80ohms) I find it quite annoying to drive while I'm out and about(naturally) as this pair requries some power to drive. many friends that have tried it said it lacks driving power, which is pretty obvious since they are trying to use their idevices to run this beast. but having said that, when there is enough power for it, it becomes one of my favourite headphones, as I find it generally a bit treble biased, which suits my music quite well.

having said that, the best thing that i find about my headphones is its extreme durability, as i carry it around everwhere as well as the ease of stripping it down, as well as tweaking it.

I had the exact opposite impressions back when I had the 80 ohm version....mine seemed a little rolled off in the highs and heavy in the bass, which seems to be the more common experience with those phones. One day I will hopefully pick up a set of the 250 ohm ones.

just an update to this thread, i am liking the dt250/80 more and more and it is leaving the dt250/250 in its wake. i think if i had to choose between the 2 i would keep only the dt250/80 as i am in love with its approach to music - just makes you want to listen to the music and get lost in it instead of listening for technicalities. the dt250/250 are more nuetral and very hd600 sounding - as i have recently picked up a pair of hd600s i think i might be moving the dt250/250s on as tnhe hd600 has the same sound signature but just gives me more technicalities and is more the reference headphone that i wanted it to be. so i think that will complete my setup for the moment

From a thread on the dt250 vs. the Shure 840. Since I do music production the idea of a closed phone that's close in sound signature to the hd600 is very appealing.

The dt250-250 is much better than the shure IMO but if you also want bass and dont mind some slight reverb in the cups I would get the senn hd280 pro over the shures. I've owned the 840, 440, m50, the dt250s and the hd280pro by the way.

Well, finally bought a pair of DT100 velour pads, without foam, for my little-used DT 150's-250 ohm and looking forward to hearing them with them.  Can only compare with the DT 250-250 from memory though, as they went back several months ago.

I found the HD280s rather unusual in balance and soundstage... a hole in the mid bass and exaggerated centre image. My pair has been out on loan and I'm not bothered to ask for them back.

Isolation is excellent but I would favour DT150 or HD25 for overall balance with bass. A pair of HD250s if you can find them!

I think the hd280 pro may have changed over time because the current pair that i just got last week sounds quite nice. The dip in the upper bass is not very pronounced and in fact the midbass is good. I prefer them over the hd25 by a huge margin.

Interesting! My bad, I meant upper bass dip. I remember being wowed when I auditioned them as the signature gives vocals a high profile. This prompted the purchase.

Over time the appeal waned. I confess I have not heard them in over 2 years...

Given the 250-250s as a reference (amp differences notwithstanding) I'd be interested in your view a few weeks on. Perhaps my memory is prejudiced... I would be rather surprised if Senn had changed the product given it has been on the roster for well over 10 years already?

The hd600s and 650s have changed over time also. Senn is known to make improvements without notice. I have also done the old vs new hd6xx test and have confirmed that the differences go beyond the differences in how old the pads were. Anyways, It could also be that I have a large head and the clamp of these cans minimize the upper bass dip. Dont know for sure. All that I know is that the hd280 pro is now my favorite closed can in the 100 range and the dt250-250 in the under 200 range.

The Beyerdynamic dt250-250 doesn't have the liveliness or the deep bass of the hd280pros. The Beyers actually are a little boring in a straight AB swap but they are more refined. The Beyer 250-250s are still better overall when we stack up all the audiophile points for a closed can but for overall value and fun factor combined with good isolation and being that they are much easier to drive... The HD280 wins. So far as scaling with sources and amps, the Beyers win. In fact I preferred the dt250-250 in a comparison against the hd600s with a certain system combinations. The hd280s in contrast don't sound much more refined out of an o2 vs out of a sansa clip+ headphone jack assuming they are playing at the same volume level. The senns (hd280) are definitely the headphones to use when watching youtube videos for example due to their more forgiving nature.

I'm not sure if Beyers DT48e has been brought up in this long thread, still I'm not all through it.
 
I was about to order the DT48 round Christmas but reasons delayed decision and by rethinking (they were out of stock)  I ordered the DT250/250 instead, exited time ahead
 
I hope it was a wise decision as I have little headphone experience, my K701 & K601 is not really doing anything for me even I have a variety of amplifiers purchased to find one which will need to stay.
