GEC 6AS7G is the brown one, GEC 6080 is the cheaper metal one.

Not sure which GEC you are talking about but the GEC 6AS7G is the best sounding power tube with WA22 especially if you are using HD800.

Yes GEC 6AS7G, also known as an A1834. The GEC 6080 is another quality tube but not quite the class of the ST bottles. They work 'equally' well in WA2 or WA22 but I seem to especially like the OTL sweetness with them in the WA2. For me they are a level above my 5998s and 7236s (have basically all of the availble makes here).

i am thinking of buying a pair of power tubes soon for the WA2. I'm looking for the darkest one's out there if anyone has any suggestions i would appreciate it. I have tung sol 5998 but I want to hear what the T1's sound like with a really dark tube.

The 5998 isnt a dark tube. I'd try some 6A7SG's

Also - I find the rectifier to really define how dark the WA22 is. I use a Mullard GZ33 which makes it nice and warm - a lot warmer sounding than the EML.

The mullard GZ33 is a power tube right? what rectifier would you recommend

They are also both indirectly heated as opposed to a directly heate 5U4G though they are fine for putting in place of the 5U4G. They will allow a slower start up on some other amps. Both are really excellent rectifiers. You will often seen then dual labeled 33 and 37 but may also have the following types also: 53KU, CV378, CV5745, U54. The slim ones are often made by Mullard but there is a fat bulb version (stunning) made by GEC / Marconi / Cosser / MOV but they sell for more money. Actually the GEC sells for much more but often there are bargains to have with  the other names on identical valves. Luckily with the GZ33 / GZ37 / 5U4G there are lots of excellent examples around, some very affordable but still excellent, like USA 5U4GBs.

One thing i still dont know is, how does the warmth and tonality actually differ between wa22 and wa2? U described the wa22 as more dynamic and edgy. I know ive heard romantic and warm as well as SS like wa6-se from different people to describe the wa22. And the wa2 is silky smooth. How is the tonality though, is it euphonic or more neutralish? I know my only real issue with wa6-se is that it didnt have the sweetness of the wa2, that tender smooth sweet tone, it was more SS like and didnt have any euphonic character, it could get warm with tubes, but it lacked that magic
