What's the coldest you've gotten? Just curious.

It's dropped to -20 F for some extended periods. But the real threat is the ice. I live less than a mile from the ocean and we can get ice storms that coat everything. I've had to scrape off 2-3 inches of ice off the car. Just makes travel really nasty.

Wowie. With all the snow Canada gets thought they would have better snow plans. The truck drivers that helped cause this should have been worried about the other trapped people finding out they were part of the hold up. Hope you weren't stuck in this mess?

This was a peculiar storm... Too much with little advanced notice. But still  And thankfully I wasn't in that area.

Have a friend that works as an EMT in Minnesota. He said if a person is in a car wreck when it is -40, they will do anything required to get them out quick. Including breaking a leg, etc. They have about 5 min, after which the victim won't make it.

-40 in Celsius is really cold indeed. Have only once been in such weather. Something like -20 C is a great swimming weather. Assuming, there is no bad wind.

There was something I read about the antics at McMudo Station in Antarctica when they got bored. It was called to '300 club.' You started out at 200 F and went outside which could be -100 F and then go back inside and drink. You had to be checked by the doctor prior as the rapid change could cause heart attack. Not sure if this was just a myth but it sounds crazy enough that bored scientist would invent this...

Participants in the 300 Club wait for a day when the temperature drops to −100°F (-73°C) for more than a few minutes, generally in the winter. Those taking part first warm up in a sauna heated to 200°F (93°C) for as long as 10 minutes.[1] Then they run naked in the snow to the Geographic South Pole, running around it in the −100°F weather. After this, they usually warm themselves back in the sauna again, often with the aid of alcoholic beverages.

There are several patches made to commemorate the occasion that are entitled to be worn by those who have joined the 300 Club.
