I just received my AD700s.

They are my first nice set of headphones. I am coming from the Koss KSC75 to these (the AT700s are huge). The soundstage is nice. I can't wait to use these for gaming also. Yeah and for $80 these are very nice, although I guess some would be turned off by it's color.

The hugeness and purpleness are two of the things that I love about them. In fact, quite apart from the excellent sound, they are easily the best looking phones I have seen. Indeed, my AD900s do not look as good.

Does this baby need an amp to shine? My friend recommends 1, like a mini cube amp or maybe corda move..

No, in my opinion. I've used them on the following: laptop's onboard audio, desktop's xonar D1, cowon & samsung mp3 players, and do not need any amplification.

I think they should be about the same, both will wear with time. The only difference I see is the warranty period. 90 days (refurbished) vs 1 or 2 years (new).

I just received my AD700's today and I have the HD555's also , the AD700's sound crisper. I've been listening to them basically all day today and prefer them over the HD555's thus far

Yeah. People who hear both usually prefer the AD700 due to its better speed, comfort (depending on fit), soundstage, separation, detail, clarity, bass quality, etc. The HD555 sounds too dull and laid back in comparison while the AD700 is more forward and energetic sounding.
