Loving the flexibility of this little device. Using it as an external USB DAC and playing music from the laptop works well. Next up is to hook the laptop + AK240 combo to my stereo preamp using this balanced cable I just purchased:

Going to be interesting to see how the AK240 performs as a USB DAC. Hopefully it will be sufficient whilst I save money for another "proper" external DAC for my second room.

AK Connect lets you play the music on your AK240 on any device that is DLNA compliant. I use it to stream music to my Sonos Connect and to my Auralic Aires. Sonos Connect will only play 16/44.1 files. It also lets you access music on your network and play on you AK240. It's a great app and it is under estimated.

I agree! I'm streaming music from an AK380 to a Naim Mu-So with AK Connect, easy to use and great sound :)

Anybody know why balanced out cables have both 3.5mm(headphone out, single ended) and 2.5mm(balanced out) connections? Why isn't it just 2.5mm(balanced out) connection only?

The stock cable looks something like this, and always wondered why it's made with both connections.

I thought only the 2.5 connection was balanced. 3.5 is non-balanced but can use balanced cable if connector adapts to non-balanced for 3.5 plug.

That´s the total true balance connector. It´s not very common in the west, but in the east it´s known as the best output and delivers ultimate sound quality, but only for AK and Opus Daps.

I am using the AK240 as a USB DAC with Audirvana on my MacBook Pro and it sounds great. I also finally subscribed to Tidal and these files also sound great. One question: when using the 240 as a USB DAC it seems to limit playback to a maximum of 352 kHz - is there any way to play DSD files at native resolution? If not, does anyone know how I can get Audirvana to downsample the DSD files I have so I can listen through the AK240 when used as a USB DAC?

Just joined the AK club via used AK240. After listening to the AK70ii at a recent meet, I found the AK240 on the trade threads and pulled the trigger. Copying files to internal memory from my smaller SD card now. Moving from Fiio X5iii.

Any must have accessories I should look into?
