One of the differences between the 240 and the SS is the rear panel is glass—the 240 panel is plastic.

I need some help. I'm currently digitizing some LP's and have successfully transferred the files to the AK240 via my Mac, but have now been trying same on my PC without the same success. The files are ok on the iTunes Library (PC) but when I drag and drop into the AK240, get the "circle with line through it" symbol and, of course, there is no transfer. All worked well on the Mac. The pc has acknowledged the AK240 ok, and I have a shortcut on the screen...just wondering if anyone could help.
Many thanks.

What file extension do they have? Examples: .alac, .flac, .mp3, .wav, etc

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm trying to figure out how to update the firmware in my AK240ss. I can't find any firmware download on AK's website and the Update button in the Settings panel doesn't do anything.
Can someone refresh my memory on how to go about this?
Thanks!

First put on your wifi. Go to the settings menu - update - system update.

After close to a year of enjoying the AK120 II, an AK240 is now en route to yours truly. It's a try-before-you-buy sort of deal, as the two players should sound identical on paper and all the reviews I read can't seem to agree on whether or not there's an audible difference between the two. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to sink some hours into A/B'ing them with everything from 16/44.1 to 5.6Mhz DSD. Tough job, but somebody's got to do it!

I will sound like a broken record. Every AK I have tried, the 100II 120II and the 240 has given a slightly better sound as you go up the ladder. Going to be curious if you feel the same way.

I would say skip the AK240 and go directly to the AK320 at this point. Yes SQ improves from the AK120II to the AK240, but the difference is not that big. On the other hand, the AK320 is a better package in terms of tech and SQ, largely because the newer and more capable AKM4490 DAC.

Based on the prices, going to the 320 would make the most sense. Both units should be bought used also, to get the value. I haven't heard the 320, so SQ wise they should take your advice. I also feel the SQ jumps were not large, just slightly noticeable to me. Clarity and soundstage mostly is what I felt went up.

Did you
I have the same question. Did you find any other 2.5mm TRRS -> 3.5mm TRS adapter?
The other one I found is http://www.aloaudio.com/female-2-5mm-to-3-5mm-adapter-plug, but I am not ready to shell out that much money on an adapter.
1. Could somebody suggest a good quality 2.5mm TRRS connector plug for AK?
Similar to this one but not the same brand:
http://www.norneaudio.com/litzheim/Eidolic-Astell-Kern-AK240-trrs-2-5-mm-balanced-4-pole-connector-diy
2. Also, a good quality 2.5mm TRRS female to 3.5mm TRS male (adapter) too.
Similar to this but not the same brand:

Thanks.

Yes but the Norne Audio one is the best, which I do use quite a bit. In fact, the NA one is pretty much the cheapest you can find out there.

I'm checking out the AK240 because I happened to get a chance to (maybe) buy it at a great price, not because I'm shopping for a new DAP per se

Sure, but it won't hurt to keep an eye on the 320 for the future.
