Let's clarify this:  The 240 has no problem driving the LCD-X. Others have mentioned this also.  Don't know about the LCD-3 but it's not an issue with the LCD-X.

Oh I think it can drive the LCD-X fine single ended, but you can tell they are being held back a little.  Balanced really lets them shine since its a good bit more power.

Exactly....in balanced mode with my Silver Dragon, the AK240SS makes the LCD-X sound truly sublime and very close to it's very best.

So my AK240 will play DSD64 without any issue but when I tried to play thru using Audirvana with the AK240 as a DAC all I hear is white noise.

Ok update: Native DSD is auto detected so you have to select DSD over PCM Standard 1.0

Having some issues with using my AK240 as a USB DAC.  If I listen to some music on my AK240 using it as a DAP, it sounds amazing.  If I use it as a USB DAC for my computer, most of the time the sound quality isn't that impressive really.  Even playing the same DSD song on the player vs my computer it sounds vastly different.  I'm getting a lot of static/distortion/clipping, and while it doesn't sound thin, it just doesn't sound as as it should and is bad enough that I consider it unlistenable.  I'm running Windows 8.1 and using JRiver to play my files.  Is this from poor USB implementation on my computer?  I'm running an Asus Rampage IV Black Edition motherboard with the AK240 plugged directly into the I/O panel on the back.  Does it for both PCM and DSD files.

I have compared multiple files, using the 2 options of the same file on my Mac and directly on the 240. They sound equally as good.

Not sure if it is dumbed down to PCM when using an external transport, though. Maybe someone else can chime in…..

It's not even that, it seemed to progress to sound even worse and was becoming more and more staticky and was worse than an am radio with poor reception.

I called their Irvine number in the US and I always reach a person.  There is a guy named Jimmy who is extremely helpful.  I sent mine in, and the quickly diagnosed the issue, and sent it back.
