I would expect that the most expensive dap ever could be able to feed properly low impedance balanced armature iems. Truth to the matter is that an iPhone 5s do better in that regard.

Keep in mind that the 846 has very low impedance drop with certain frequencies coming close to output impedance of the AK.  It's also sensitive.  1/8 rules will not apply with 846.
 
I have posted that it sounded great with UERM demo.  UERM is quite stable since it has much higher impedance.

This. Anything around 2 ohms output impedance should be acceptable for any DAP.

Earphones have been made to ridiculous spec for years. It's nothing new. The Shure SE846 actually is slightly easier to drive that certain other earphones. The Earsonics SM2, for example, still causes a lot of pain for portable amps and sub-par players. The SE846 provokes less signal degradation than the SM2, though it is not an easy earphone to drive.

I went for silver dragon V1 balanced cable for my shure846, sounds very good with the AK240 IMO.

just received my rwak240, noticed a line on the side of the unit probably due to the modification opening up the case. is it meant to be like that?perfectly acceptable if it is due to the mod. but i am just curious and asking...gonna have a fun time listening tonite...

 You would think they would know the ak240 will be used with highly sensitive iems.

the sound, absolutely stunning! i havent hear stock ak240, so cant compare those two. but coming from dx100, the sound is stunning!!
 
last year, i went into shop to audition ak120 but walked out with dx100 given i could purchase those two at the similar price. disapppointed with ak120 but man, i didn't know ak240 is such a monster.
 
i haven't loaded any of my music in, was listening to some songs pre-loaded by vinnie at red wind, that clarity, that sound stage...no regret spending 3k+ on this..
 
i am going to give it a full charge and load my own music and listen again...
 
apparently my uber is with Gavin for a trrs retermination, maybe 2 to 3 weeks time....so i am using ref1+silver#gold
