The Astell & Kern AK120

I like it just as is. It's informative enough in stock form where I can differentiate different dithers applied to a noise adjusted 24/192 file with the same pecking order as I get on my best kit. This from it's stock headphone jack and my JH13s. Anything can be made to be more focused by compromising versatility. What's nice about the stock unit is that it just ticks all the boxes at a very high level.

Hey all, I've just ordered the AK120 and was wondering if it will accept any capacity Micro SD card?

I've seen product specs that state 'upto 196GB' ( 96GB internal and 2 x 64GB on additional Micro SD)

Which is fine, I've just ordered the 64GB cards, but there are now 128GB Micro SD cards, so technically will it now take an additional 256GB? ( and keep increasing as card capacities do? )

Cheers!

It is obvious what all users want:
Popular ones:
1-Larger screem
2-Similar form factor
3-True line out
4-TRRS out

Lurkwarm needs:
1-Native DSD
2-USB DAC support

Uneeded extra:
1-Optical out

If you want to make a DAP truly portable than your first priorities should be to have a DAP that sounds good with CIEM, IEM with headphone as bonus. It should be able to play all the lossless files popular now without any headache. It should have true gapless without lossing bits.

I hope that the AK200 replaces the current AK120, AK120 to replace AK100 and AK100 prices reduces to 350-400 USD. They have already made good profit on their current line up, i am sure if they do this they will win the market completely. It just does not make sense to bring another expensive flagship product where the current one is no cheap by all means.

I would add in the necessary column - usable playlists, better navigation, and more space (192GB is not enough).

True, but what I think what will solve the storage problem with a lot of DAPs is to use wifi and wifi enabled HDDs.  I did this with my Sony F807 and a 1TB wifi HDD, thus I will not run into space issues, ever.

I just searched on Amazon and didn't see any 128GB.
Do you have a link to where you saw them?
Thx

I do really hope that 128gb micro SD's come and work in the AK120. I have too much music to fit into 192GB. Switching cards is not great.

The likelihood is great that any MicroSDXC Card will work because many people have already used 128GB and larger SD cards in their AK's with an SD adapter:

Wow this gives me a great idea.  I'm going to use two of these and just run them between my AK120 and amp.  Won't even see them.  Cool.  There are now 256GB SD cards.  Unfortunately, they are running about $500.  As Sam said, I'm not keen on swapping out cards either.  I like the idea of having a good bit of music collection available.
