Only time will tell if AK120 will be widely accepted at that price so we can all leave the RRP bashing aside first.

I am more interested to see how much improvement is there over the AK100.

Agreed. I will decide whether this device is worth my hard earned spondoolies once I've had a listen.

If what spkrs01 is saying is correct, then it could be a bit special :)

Yeah, me too. I just love NOS sound, that's why I went for Tera Player. Anyway, I'm very curious about the new AK120. Waiting for sprks01, Expat, and Anakchan review

The problem I have with the price is that there isn't really the parts to qualify this unit at this range. The Wolfson 8740 is around 2 dollars when bought in volume, the extra parts for the circuit of that extra dac, a few dollars the larger case, not really an additional cost. So lets say they are paying 25 more dollars for the AK120 or a generous, and I don't see it, 50 dollars, how does that get you to 1300 dollars? The R&D is already out there. Think about it.

Bingo. It's a cash grab. First off if the damn thing was labelled iRiver rather than Haagen Dazs, it would be lucky to fetch 500 bucks.

For the price I would expect.

A full size touchscreen interface.
A minimum of 128 GB on board memory with a 2 GB playback buffer.
2 SD card slots
Ability to plug in and build a playlist from a USB Hard Disk.
Ability to copy to and from any of the above media.
A high quality AC adapter charger
Ability to record to any of the above media.

You could put the above together, sell it for 799 bucks and still make heaps of profit.

Can you bypass the internal amp in this?  Just wondering if you have to listen to the AK120 "double amped" if you want to run it through an external portable/desktop, whatever....

there are more. use geizhals.de to find them. looks like amazon's db didn't catalogue all the offers yet.

In the EU there is a mandatory 2 year warranty against defective goods. It might even cover gapless playback not being gapless.

This is correct EU directive 99/44/EC (which e.g. Germany adopted in full, so did other counties, Austria, Poland, Denmark and so on...) also protects the consumer from falsely advertise electronics. You would have to sue AK or iriver in a civil court, though.
