I like the EVOs. One of the best values for under $100. It's a lot of headphone for the asking price. However, for just a little over $100, the can be easily bested. Great for those of us who want good sound for a great price. These cans are cheap enough that I won't freak out when I eventually break them.

I'm a big fan of superlux headphones, I love the red 681 the most then the 681 EVO. I always want to find a headphone with similar sound signature to the 681 then i buy the DT990 pre 600 ohm and He-400 and now both are collecting dust, i only use the 681 EVO to listen to music everyday. (Please note that my EVO is fully modded and those two headphones a definitely technical better then the EVO but the EVO ismuch more enjoyable to me)

I'm in pretty annoying situation... My HD 595's are falling apart (headband) and getting them fixed would cost almost 2x more than pretty much any Superlux. But. HD 595's fit my head perfectly and I can wear them whole without any issues and the pads are really comfortable. Also the years have only made them sound better. 50/50 situation.

The first part of that says you love the red 681 more than the EVO, but the second part sounds like the EVO is used more and gets more praise. ?  Do you still like the red 681 more than the modded EVO?

Can anyone compare the 681/(Presonus HD7?), EVO, 668b soundstage size to fa-003/HM5?

I mainly listen to the 681 EVO because the red 681 was broken, i clearly prefer the red 681 to the 681 EVO (both modded) the EVO sound more refined, has more 3d soundstage, a little bit more detail but it sound more close in, the red 681 sound more open, has smoother mid, better bass slam, it sound more fun and enjoyable. I haven't heard the Fa-003/HM5 but i think both the 681 will easily better them in soundstage. The DT990 has extremely large sound stage but the red 681's is just a little bit smaller (That's with the original pad and cotton mod to raise the pad). I think it will be like DT990 > 681 > 681 EVO > FA-003

Well... I ended up getting the 595's fixed (apparently they finally reached service today) but I also ended up buying Superlux HD-668 B with velour pads as second/backup headphones. At the moment I'm using earbuds and they are liiittle bit too large so the sound is not optimal nor is the comfort.

All the Superlux cans I've tried (681EVO, 668B, 531, 631) are at the top of their tier in terms of sound vs price. If someone only has $40 or so to spend, Superlux is an excellent choice. It is very good sound - but not great. All of the Superlux cans are easily outclassed by some cans costing $200 or more. However, not all cans costing $200 or more will sound better than a Superlux, but most of the $200 will be better built.

Just my opinion. I've got a karaoke setup at a local club and I use Superlux headphones for monitoring purposes and leave them there. They sound good enough and the loss won't be so great if they walk. My more expensive cans do a better job, but I don't want to subject them to the torture of commercial use or risk them walking.

It is a good phone for sure, build is good but the pads are useless. You need something like the HM5 pads for it to be comfortable.

It´s warm and bassy, yet airy and with great sparkle in the highs. Not as refined as the DT880 but i prefer it over the beyers.. One of my favourite cans! However it need some amplification. It´s 150 ohms and 80 something spl after all.
