Probably stock HD688 is close enough or HD662F. I recommend China pads 105mm. HD662F is probably the most neutral, with great dynamics and with quite deep bass headphone from the Superlux after some tweaking. And the mod is very easy to doHello! Thanks a lot for your input. I own a takstar pro 82 and a superlux hd681. I am looking to replace my takstar for outside listening since I couldn't find this amazing sound from the hd681 which honestly blows my mind everytime at how good it sounds.
I've been considering the 662 Evo and now the 688, both of them won't be modded.
Do you know if the hd688 (or any of you) sounds similar to hd681? I don't need it to be better, similar is enough.
Thanks in advance.

This is the mod I did: A kinesio tape front of the driver (aka a fabric tape)
an optional: open the holes fully and cover the holes with same tape

Is it worth getting the 669's or 681's if I already own 668b's?
All kinds of music, also studio use.
Thanks

I have both the 681 and the 668B. I say go for it. The 681 is way more comfortable for me than the 668B. Sounds as good as the 668B too.

Thanks for chiming in. Do you have any experience with evo compared to normal 681?

I don't have the Evo, sorry But I think I've read some reports saying that they do sound better than the 681. In what way, I'm not sure. However, they also reported that the build quality of the Evo is quite suspect. The cable gets broken where it meets the cans after a few months of (presumably everyday) use.

Maybe you had the chance to listen to hd330 model? Are they an upgrade from the 668b's?

No, I haven't listened to the HD330. I plan to get one in future, though. Will report back once I have done so.
Superlux HD681 (older version, pre-2018?) with Superlux HD662-EVO earpads and 6 plies of paper towel. Measured using MiniDSP EARS with HEQ compensation. Imo, has a balanced sound overall with very good bass extension, warm mids, good treble extension (doesn’t have the steeliness/tizziness sound of the stock pads, specifically in instruments such as cymbals).
My stock Focal Clear, stock Sennheiser HD800 with worn earpads, and stock Superlux HD681 measurements overlaid alongside modded Superlux HD681.

I'm not a fan of toilet paper but it's a dirty and easy trick. I think a kinesio tape is more suited. You can also try to block with a cotton the center of the driver. It also removes the treble peakiness. But also increasing some shallow falls. Also if you open the vents at the front you get more bass.

May I know where did you put the paper towel? Also, if I'm not mistaken this is the older version of the HD681, right?Superlux HD681 with Superlux HD662-EVO earpads and 6 plies of paper towel. Yes, this is the older version. I placed the paper towel discs (in the shape of stock circular foam) in front of the driver, than placed/stacked the included stock foam on top. I will post photos later.May I know where did you put the paper towel? Also, if I'm not mistaken this is the older version of the HD681, right?
