My current setup is AT 900LTD cans, MHDT USB DAC, DiyHiFi Chazz Mk II OTL headphone amp.

I pretty much listen ONLY to 50s 60s jazz.  What's most important to me is proper timbre, fleshed-out tone & body, then dynamics, then nuance & detail.

I am interested in replacing the MHDT DAC/Chazz with an all-in-one solid-state DAC/amp IF I could do so without any or only minor setbacks in quality.

Because this is used at the office, space is relevant, though I have some room.

I know almost nothing of what's out there in terms of such units.  Anything?

Budget would be $1000 at the most, prefer half that.

CEntrance DACmini might fit your criteria.

Research Nuforce HDP ($450) or even HD ($350, sans preamp).  Very highly regarded for the price, minimal footprint.

The HA-160D comes to my mind. Excels with jazz, and its a good match for the headphones you own.

I went to a local meet with some friends who love music/audio, and auditioned the HA-160D with the ATH-W1000x and i was pleased.

It looks like it works well with the AT line.

Thanks for the replies.  After a bit of research I'm attracted to the Burson unit.  Perhaps I could stretch to $1250.

If you're willing to stretch to that amount, take a look at the Anedio D1 as well.  Appears to be a couple comparisons in the Anedio thread between the Burson and D1.

I've been looking for a Burson unit (used) for awhile now with no dice.  It sounds to me like I would like prefer the Burson to the others.  (Of course, no way to hear any of them.)

I'd look into meier audio stuff (im not sure if they have a full size amp/dac) or Burson.

Meier Audio had it and maybe it will come again. There was the Opera and the Cantate.2, whereas the Opera was meant to be the better solution..
