My headphone repertoire is:
Sennheiser HD 800
Beyerdynamic Tesla T1
Audeze LCD-2
Ultrasone Edition 8 Ruthenium
Beyerdynamic DT770 600 ohm
Grado RS1i
Denon D5000

I listen mainly to classic rock, progressive rock, and hard rock with a bit of classical and dubstep mixed in.

Budget: $1500

Have you thought about collecting a few more dollars and ordering a Zana Deux? It's remarkably competent with everything thrown at it short of the K-1000. I'd probably unload a headphone or two to increase the budget and place an order if I were you. Take a look through the owners' thread. You won't find many disappointments in there.

700 is hardly a few more dollars :p

That's about as much as a moderately high end computer! But we do what me must for optimal sound in this little hobby...

On a side note, are the K1000's really that tough to drive? To think I almost decided on using a WA6 to power it -_-

I know, and I had terrible buyer's remorse after placing the deposit, but it's been worth it. There have been a couple of used ones in the For Sale Forum lately, but I don't know if they've been sold.

The K-1000 is a tough headphone to drive. The user manual tells you to use a power ampmfor speakers with 8W or better. I usually run them off the speaker taps on the Moth (3W) which seems good enough and the 2A3s really make them sing.
