That would work, if you want to use the portable for home use.  It will be interesting to see if Stax end up offering an adapter down the road, though I doubt they will -  you'd probably end up having to make one yourself or have a DIYer make one for you.

Does anyone know if the new SR-002/SR-003mkii has the same type of tip attachment as the original? I would want the Starkey custom tips but they are made for the last gen so I want to make sure they would work fine on the new model too.

Also, it would be interesting for experienced Stax users to listen to the SR-003 Mkii on the same amps they use for their fullsize Stax. Eliminating variables for scientific purposes and all that...

Actually, the diameter of the tip is smaller this time so I don't believe you could use an old mold.

You can look for an SRD-x or SRD-p portable amp that has the 5-pin pro adaptor.  They are not plentiful but do appear on the web from time to time.  That way you can get one headphone and have one amp for home and maybe one portable.

1. The Starkey tips are complete customs.  I sent them the headphone sans cable so they could make both ends custom.
 
2. I have used the SRD-p (amp) with both the SR-404 signature (and the SR-lambda pro before that) and the SR-003.  With the ear molds the sound is really close in the mids.  I think the sound stage on the SR-404 is better and the "sense of ease" is more apparent.  The top end is more extended and tilted up a bit on the SR-404.  Now remember, STAX has improved the thinness of the diaphragm to make the latest even more responsive and linear.  I can tell you that the difference between the lambda pro and the SR-404 signature was striking in terms of clarity.  I can only imagine that the newest SR-003 might be better that the SR-003 that I have.  I have heard the SR-007 (Omega) on the SRD-p and the sound was spectacular but not better enough to justify the extra expense.  It may have been the amp that was holding the SR-007 back but I heard them both (Omega and SR-404 sig) the same day on an 007t and was surprised that the difference in amps (SRD-p and 007t) was not all that apparent.  Just my opinion, I was expecting more.  I left the venue satisfied with what I am using.

IEM with a head band will still be an IEM. This isn't IEM by definition because it doesn't require a seal in the ear canal. That means it should be like an earbuds rather than an IEM.

I just got word that all the new models are delayed by 1 month.  Also, I'm starting to explore the possibility of finding a company that will do a "group buy" for custom molded tips.
