Sr 002 + Srm 002 is portable with battery operated Stax set up

Sr 003 mk2 + srmb252 s is desktop with adaptor operated Stax set up

According to Stax sr 002 ans sr 003 mk2 are the same unit only with different connector .

Stax set up sound quality from the factory are already very good

If you increase the source , for example with Dac , you can hear the SQ improvement significant .

From the computer is not as good source , you need add some USB Dac to improve your SQ for your computer sound zig .

Between sr 002 portable and sr 003 mk2 desktop has different sound quality about 20 - 30 % indepent from your source .

Sr 002 + srm 002 set up :

Source : as direct dap with AK 100 has the best SQ
Dac : class - dB + iPhone 4 S and ibasso dB 2 + AK 100 sound fantastic with sr 002

High : very detail , clear and clean

Mid : the sweetest midrange I heard from iem is from Stax iem

Bass : is clean and detail bass , compare to dynamic driver has more bass impact , but the
Bass quality Stax can produce better bass quality if you can get the synergies with your
Sources like Dac and player .

Separation : very good , you can imagine where the placement from the Sanger and the
music instrument Behind the Sanger

Soundstage : very wide from electrostatic iem compare to other iem

Sr 003 my 2 + Srm 252 s has better power , this more power can produce better tonal balance
In all frequencies .
The SQ different about 20 - 30 % indepent your good source ,

The best source : CD player Stello CDA 500
iPhone 4S + Dac class - dB
iPhone 4S + Dac fostex hp p1
iPhone 4S + Dac class solo old version

This is my personal opinion

Why don't they modernize their equipment? This stuff looks like it came from the 1960's. It doesn't even look ergonomic. I'm sure they sound amazing, but if I'm paying nearly $700 for a portable setup, I expect the full package, not just sound.

Anyway, rant over. Carry on with your thread.

Checking to see if anyone is traveling here from our Japan office anytime soon, a friend in the office mentioned he'd pick one up for me for $450. It's interesting that STAX USA has such a large pricing delta given that the import duty for this would be ~$22.50, plus freight and insurance even over Japanese MSRP, it seems like a large delta.

Edit: I am in no way criticizing Justin or the US distributors, I'm just suspecting STAX has a small presence in the US with high overhead. Alternatively, they may treat STAX USA as an independent satellite and are double dipping on margin for both orgs.

Do you mean stax 005 mkii for 450$, or just the iems without the amp?

got them in today.  the portable system is sold out for now, but i still have the home system and the earspeakers by themselves

more to come later.  have to build A LOT of picos right now.

if these took off (thousands of pairs), a portable DAC/Amp for them could be a good idea.
