Hello, I am quite new here. Actually, this is my first post.

So recently I have started to get more interested in quality headphones, and kind of want to become an audiophile myself. But for now I actually know how any of these things work, and actually don't have much money...

But putting that aside, I am hesitating between a few headphone models. Take note that I usually listen to classic rock, thrash metal (although I sometimes go a bit beyond that, think Behemoth), and jazz. Once in a while, I like to listen to electronic music. My headphones do not necessarily need to have a lot of bass, I will be content with decent bass, mids, and highs.

Right now, I have enough money to buy <100$ headphones. I am hesitating between these:
Audio-technica ATH-AD700
Sennheiser HD280
Sennheiser HD555
Grado SR60 (kind of hesitant for this one because it doesn't have a lot of isolation)

Oh, also right now I have Panasonic RP-HTX7's. They're alright for their price, I guess.

Thanks!

P.S. : Any help concerning the basics of audio terms is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Head-Fi!

The Grado SR-60 is always a good first step and will work great with your music. Don't worry too much about isolation - I listen to open headphones 95% of the time and they're fine.

You might want to consider the Alessandro MS-1, too. Also made by Grado, cost $100, and a bit more neutral than the Grado line.

This is wrong Uncle Erik , You did not warn him about his poor wallet.
So here it goes,
Welcome to Head-Fi and sorry about your wallet!

Appreciated, Uncle Erik. I know an audio shop downtown (in Montreal) that carries Sennheisers and Grados. If possible, I will try both.

Ah, and right now I have to get a good pair for my money because... well I have no job. So yeah, my poor wallet is going to be hungry for a bit.

another inexpensive entry into audiophilia might be a pair of Superlux phones.

Oh, thanks a lot! I think I'll get these instead and get something else with the rest of my money. Perhaps a book on the basics of audio.

Anyway, that looks like a nice way to start as an audiophile.
