SRH840 impression

I don't feel that the plastic used on the SRH840 seems cheap. Certainly not the highest quality plastic I've seen, but far from being cheap. It seems durable enough.
However, I do agree with the loose sliding part. Often times when I pull the SRH840s off the stand to wear them, the adjustment has to be reset. At least the notches are marked, so it's easy to set them back where you like.

x 3 on the Shures looking pretty darn sturdy in my books and x 2 on wishing the adjusting sliders were a bit stiffer but being thankful for the graded markings, at least.

Mine appear well built enough, although the lightness of the plastic (and the impressions I've read of well-treated pairs breaking at the hinges with regular use) have led me to treat them with great delicacy.

In any event, I agree with recent posters in that the SRH-840 plastic doesn't strike me as cheap, and I too would prefer stiffer, ratcheting sliders.

i fear to know what quality plastic is to you.
perhaps only something that is non-plastic will look durable to you?

The 840's may not look pretty, but they are built like a tank. I have absolutely tortured mine, folding them up and throwing them in a suitcase, briefcase, etc - and not an issue. They are, in fact, my go-to headphone for when the going gets rough

So which has better quality bass between the 840s and the ESW9.I just found the ESW9s for a very low price of $105 (including free shipping in the US) eBay.Audio-Technica - ATH-ESW9 - Luxury Headphones - NIB!!!! - eBay (item 170397477471 end time Nov-20-09 10:27:46 PST) Looks very shady! No feedback available!Definitely risky.

O______o

lol

Well I place them on my bookshelf when they aren't in use because I'm weird and have OCD. I won't be taking them anywhere though, probably due to the fact that they are massive

quite happy with them and very comfortable. I can easily wear them for 8h+ in the office without getting hot ears or headache.

Soundwise, can't say. Lacking something to compare it too, but will compare it once the AH-D5000 arrives.
But from memory my HD-600 was way more impressive, but this memory is like 6+ years old...
