I see comparisons to the dt770 80ohm, how about the dt770 consumer edition (250 ohm). I was going to pick up the 770 consumer edition but opted to wait and see what people thought of the 840s.

I emailed Shure today inquiring about the SRH series headphones' availability in Canada, and the rep said that they should be available in all major licensed Shure dealers in Canada starting next week! (whether that includes even the likes of Best Buy/Futureshop, etc, I dunno). So for all the Canadian buyers that are interested, keep your eyes peeled come Monday.

Can't wait to try these.

After ~50 hours or so, the sound seems to have cleared up a little bit and dynamic range has improved slightly. I was finding these ever-so congested sounding out of the box, and I'm not noticing that to the same degree anymore. But, of course, this could be my ears burning in rather than the cans themselves - I've been listening almost exclusively with these for the last few days, so I can't rule that out.

What I will say, is that out of my three cans I think these will become my rock cans of choice. Guitars just sound amazing on these, and bass drums have real impact. All without harsheness in the highs. Watch out Grado.

Kudos to Shure for getting these out there! I had a listen at CanJam, and thought they sounded great for $199 closed headphones. And the build quality seemed extremely tough and professional, finally something to challenge the DT770 in that arena.

Thanks, redlinez33. The guy I corresponded with made it sound like it would be a couple months before the SHR840 was even released, which is obviously not true. Hopefully he's just behind the times...

I ordered mine from Full Compass on July 7 for $142.50-you have to call to get this price though. They said they'd be shipping them the 15th. I got them today (all the way in Alaska!). Their customer service was great and they were very helpful throughout the process. Initial impressions: LOVE. More upon complete burn-in.
