So I'm officially off the 10-Hole Mod.
Hello Bill, how did you manage the extra holes? Did you use some sort of "stop" on your drill press to avoid reaching the diaphragm??
Well I had a bad day of modding. After cutting 5 Padauk shells, I realized the 1-5/8" 2-3/8" combo just leaves the walls too thin. I cracked all the shells inserting drivers, even after making the driver cavity bigger. Will be trying a 1.5", 2.5" combo next time. At least I only used a quarter of my Padauk and have all the other woods left. I just need to get better at finishing sanding. Might be investing in some sanding sealer to help that along.
In other good news I finally have a Beyer headband coming so hopefully that will be nice. And hopefully the rest of my recable supplies will arrive tomorrow so I can get that done. Should be some nice changes coming in the next few days. I can't wait.
A voice coil falling out of the gap around the magnet is fixable. A voice coil falling off the Mylar is fixable. Snapped voice coil cables are another story. If your wires are intact (and you've simply had the voice coil come off of the Mylar, that part can be glued back on. Snapped wires are more difficult.
The bend in the Mylar is nothing. That can be fixed in 30 seconds with the sticky side of a single piece of tape.
When you guys make these shell i don't think its necessary to have a slot all around the inside for the driver cup/tray, you only need like a ledge there all away around so the driver tray doesn't go too far in and screw up the cord. I my have missed something over the past few days but really its like overkill
to make these shell's too complicated. It will save you alot of time and aggravation to make these Grado's sing. If you don't understand what I'm saying PM me and I'll explain better hopefully.
