SR60-Mod part II

• Paint your craft screen black - or, whatever color you want to use.
• When the screen has dried, lay both cups down - with the drivers removed and have the cups sitting on some paper towel material.
• Using some Elmer's glue, slowly put a small bead of the white glue along the ledge that the screen will rest on.
• Set your screen into place.
• Let it dry for about 6 hours.
• That should be it!  The process should result in a very neat installation for you.

 

Ahh... good stuff, that Elmer's glue is. Random thought, but did anyone else as a kid put that stuff all over their hands, wait for it to dry and then peel it off like it was dead skin? I'm really tempted to see if it's just as fun as an adult.

I've tried 22AWG SPC once on my headphones, got annoyed with the inflexibility and the weird way the cable always coiled and switched over to commercially made Canare wire.

Got some silver installed today! Big thanks to Stefan for helping me out with this little project. Really nice guy with lots of knowledge to share in this hobby. 
 
Whoa! The detail retrieval has definitely been bumped up. The song "TAOS" by Menomena is one of my reference songs because there is tons going on at all frequencies, and lots of imaging. I've never heard these drivers sparkle more than it is now. Combined with the wood, these headphones are really doing it for me right now. I suppose I'll vent the drivers and add some dynamat now and see how it goes.

Which drivers did you use in this Sapele cups?  I have the Grado SR-225 in mine - not the "i" series.  Vent mods and Dynamat will complete your work - trust me, or us on that one.  That's a nice looking silver cable.

The cables aren't stiff. However, they're not that soft either. The good thing is that they don't get tangled, aren't heavy and are great quality. I have no idea how much more quality I'm getting out of them vs stock cable as I just had to open the box and plug them. The seller got these cans from Marty and did the recable. I don't know what cabling Martin used originally - from pics it was white sleeved and that's all I know. The seller experienced a higher level of detail and articulatness. Hope this helps to make up your mind.

The word is his Web site changed servers last week.  I suspect that the DNS at your Internet provider hasn't received the routing updates yet.  However, if you go to his site, hold down the "cntl" key, then click on the reload button for your browser.  It will be interesting to see if you can get a fresh load of his new site.  I've read of others (the Netherlands) who have ordered the LCD-2 headphones from hime, so apparently, he does do International shipping.  However, I'm here if needed.  And, yes, I can open up his Web site, refresh it, etc.  It all works here in the U.S. for both my ISP from home and at work.

With all of mine, I've done all 10.  I've then performed the mod by covering them with cut-out felt.  This seems to provide the best balance of bass.  This same mod has been performed by 2 other modders - whose work I've witnessed.

Thanks for the tip, but no dice. It times out. Google returnos two web addresses for TTVJ, both of them seem to be down on my side - using connection at work and 3G on iPhone. Poor implementation if your customers can't visit your website lol

Yes, True.  Also, it points out how slow the DNS changes get propogated over the Internet for the world - certainly, not timely enough for some areas.

Thanks for the offer, but I actually do have some mesh on there. They are black and thin, so with poor lighting like that picture has, they look fairly stealthy.

I have the SR60i drivers in there now. My SR225i is bone stock, and I'm actually flip-flopping on whether or not I'm actually going to mod them. The thing is, they are my absolute favorite headphone of all that I own, and I'm not sure if I'll get *that* much difference from the 60i after doing the same mods. Instead of keeping two of virtually the same headphone, it might be worth it to have one woodie and keep a plastic Grado (does that sound blasphemous in this thread, or what?). But then again, I'll probably be itching to rip it apart in a week or so. 
 
I vented four holes yesterday and was very surprised at the difference that it made. The bottom end is definitely more authoritative. Also surprising is that the rest of the spectrum seems to have benefited from better soundstage. It's more airy and less congested. Really love what it did. I added a bit of dynamat (pea sized) to each driver, over the center of the driver, and felt it took away some of the sparkle. Perhaps I put too much, didn't vent enough holes, or did not disperse it throughout the driver enough. I took it off for now, and will tune it when I have time tomorrow night. I see that some people vented 8 or even 10 holes, and then used the dynamat to dial some of it back. I'll try that, but I'm very happy with 4 holes right now. Gonna enjoy these headphones at its current state for the day or so. 

 
Last night, I ordered some lambskin from Italy to try my hand at making headbands, which should arrive in two or three weeks. I wanted them two-tone, and they come in 5 or 6 sq ft hides, so I ended up getting about 10 sq ft of lambskin to do two headbands. My better half thinks I'm crazy. I'm sure you all get that too.

I'm going to put the Bloodwood ones on my 225i, and I'm going to put my RS2i drivers in the African Mahogany RS1 clones. He also made me a set of cocobolo inserts for my 325i's

Like many in this thread I felt Bila inspiring and his comments always worth reading. I have been waiting for cups from him for months and did not get them. Like many. I have resolved my issues with Bill, and I hope he will eventually sort everything out and pop up in this thread again.
And one thing he - all well as all other people in the SR60mod thread, really started is getting people hooked on a new hobby.  After I have been waiting months for Bila cups I bought two sets of Cabillas' well crafted shells and I love them. But finally, after all the venting and dampening and stuff, I decided to move on to making my own woodies with my 30-year-old drill press. So here we go with my first ever wood cups. 
Yeah, and once again, thank you Bila for your inspiration.
