If you want open HP from Sony, MDR-SA5000 vintage they are simply superb, you just need a little work to make them superbly awesome....without some works, they are....shivery. Hell, even Z7 turns to be much better when worked on

  I've been thinking of getting another open headphone for awhile now but I think I'm just going to stick with my Z7 and keep my HD600 for when I want something different, I also still like my HE-400 from time to time.

The HD600 and the HE400 are very good, you should be fine, if it wasn't HeadFi.......

Lol...the problems is not head-fi. The problems is your taste. What do you want ? Head-fi only hints you toward what you want more. Then we all know that audio gears are a vast ocean, where each headphone is only a fish ......so it is depend on you to seek out what you want. You want "king of headphones" ? Sure, Sony MDR -R10. Weather or not it satisfy you is another different topic. How about current status of Audiophile ? HD800, or the more expensive Orpheus ? Does it satisfy you ? Lol....keep looking, but the best would be for you to understand your taste first.

Btw. on The IFA in Berlin, i had the pleasure to listen for 10 minutes to the Orpheus. Hold your breath, I still love and value the Z7.

I had a chance to hear a pair of HD700 on Friday and they sound very nice but I personally found they were to bright and sibilant for my tastes these days. If you find them fatiguing then the Z7 would suite you. If on the other hand you like their midrange and treble then the Z7 would sound muddy in comparison.I also listened to a pair Of Audioquest Nighthawk and I quite liked them. I might go back to the store and take my Z7 for comparison. They both have a darker signature.

How bright is it compared to the HE-400? I like the highs of the 400 but any brighter would be to much for me.

No sub bass , hot treble? Did you mod that already out of them? Sound wise, they should have nothing in common with the Z7 and therefore they are not really compareable I think.
