I'm not sure if the "Z9" excites me or not.  I love the Z7, because of what it does as a closed headphone.  (Well, mostly closed)

I doubt it will be called the Z9. Knowing Sony, they will likely introduce a new line altogether. Good thing Sony didn't replace with another closed back... I just got my Z7.

Good thing I don't need an open back :) That amp looks tempting... assuming Sony is keeping with the same proprietary balanced inputs on the new unit.

Sony is a reputable company that knows how to manage its flagship headphones and not screw customers. Hifiman is a joke for releasing v2 of the HE1000 and HE Edition X within 12 months of shipping. I am looking forward to the Z9 or whatever it will be called. Love the open phone sound.

I heard from a very good source that this so-called Z9 is fake. Don't believe everything you see on the Internet!

someone should drill some holes in Z7 and make it open-back.  @PETEREK  I'm looking at you.

I listen to mostly rock, classic rock and metal and they sound amazing with all those genre's also. I'm so glad I didn't give up on my Z7. Because after a very underwhelming disappointing first month with my Z7, I absolutely LOVE them now. I've found they sound good with every kind of music I throw at them. The fit, finish and build quality is amazing also. Whitigir has had them apart for modding and told me they are built like a tank.
