Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

It would be nice if they went against the norm.
There's a pretty big price difference between the Z1R pricing in the US and Australia. USD$2300 in the US, and AUD$1599 (USD$1077) in Australia at the moment (on sale).
So it does seem they have quite some room to move.

So you’re saying in Australia they sell below the America dealer cost? I’d be suspect of that.

Why not going against the norm and price it at $3000? Sony has the technologies to do it. They can release an R10 with more bass output and retain everything else....that alone will give them a true statement product.

Wouldn’t that depend on which version of the R10? I think adding bass to the bass dominate version might get ugly. Don’t you think?

The bass heavy is still very much bass light compared to even the HD800. I really wish Sony just bring back an R10...though I doubt that harvesting a 200 years old tree to make a headphones housing would no longer be feasible in today’s society.

Well maybe they could use a tree that is grass fed and hand massaged daily in beer and sunshine?

I queried the dealer where I bought mine for this price and he said that the price is set by Sony Australia who have decided to crazily discount this headphone for some reason. Apparently they did it here years ago with the PS3 or something - Sony Australia decided we would get it way cheaper than the rest of the world. I dunno how it works, I'm just happy that I could take advantage.

Lets just say they bought more than they anticipated they could sell. You know each market likes a particular sound, the Sony house sound isn't big here.

Actually, my brain must be off the rails. The MSRP here is $1999.00 USD. It did see a price reduction a few months ago. My error, apologies

I think most of us on here have been here long enough to understand the marks ups on most product, it is a free market after all, no need to apologise.

Yeah fair call. They seem to be pretty polarising. Both the full size and the IEM version...

I’d say there is much more polarisation with the MDR than the IER

Agreed. IER is generally praised across the line (well, some divisiveness with the IER-Z1R but I like that they're trying something new at least), just generally unpopular due to lack of marketing to be honest with little to no reviews across the market except from Asian countries (still quite discounted in Australia compared to rest of world). Z7M2 is another full size headphone that has been discounted to an extreme ($295 USD) here in Australia and it still hasn't sold out. I'd argue if Z7M2 was on Drop for that much of a discount, people would've jumped on it just to have a go.

The Z7 m2 requires a good bit of power to sound great. I really like mine and found it to be more balanced than the MDR-Z1R. The IER-Z1R bring a really unique sound to the table. For an IEM to have this type of soundstage is insane. The low low bass is amazing to hear. Definitely a treat to own. My JH13pro is starting to collect dust.
