New release: https://github.com/unknown321/wampy/releases/tag/v1.1.0

Added Walkman One config editor. Sound signature is changed right on device, no PC required.

I believe it is 90% compatible with WM1A/Z, NW-A30/40, ZX300, since these work on same software platform. Possible problems are screen size, different button identificators and storage layout. I can build a port for these, but I need a device to test on or at least a volunteer.

My initial impressions are that A45 is a non-starter, and my guess would be around the device RAM being lesser.

I'm getting to know wampy / auto-scrobble with A55: this could be right up my street, and could permanently obsolesce the Android player/s.

Do reach out if I could help further with A45 (or A55). Please note, I am running with Walkman One enabled.

Isn't the cassette screen supposed to be animated? (Edit: is just that, as long as device has expected setting/s, as stated below).
Not happy with AAC (my preferred codec). Won't display tags nor animate cassette. (Edit: this was with BT enabled, or VU meters enabled, or both. Works great with wired cans & standard screen/s. Boy my face is red).

Even allowing for user error, lots of edge cases to deal with. Auto-scrobbler is good, though, and has been a nice surprise going into 2025!

It is VU meters, an unexpected case. Only standard display screen works for now, will fix later.

You definitely can. First you must make a full backup of your device, instruction here - https://github.com/unknown321/wampy/blob/master/BACKUP.md. Backup is needed in case something goes very wrong and device goes into boot loop; having backup is the easiest way out of if. Other ways include dumping and editing bricked device's flash (complicated, hard to explain over the internet) and visiting local Sony Support Center.

After a backup I'll send you a beta build.

As Justsomesonyfan said this thread is for custom firmware, not exclusive to MrWalkman. There have been other users in the past, especially in the old thread.

The only thing I think you could (maybe) pin against this guy is if he took MrWalkmans firmware without asking and worked on it/rereleased it without asking for his permission first. But even then we have no proof of such.

But from any conversations ive had with him in the past, he doesn't seem like he's the type to care too much. I'd say so long as credit is given to MrWalkman he doesnt mind. If he does, im sure hell speak up, or he could do so privately with Wampy. Don't go after him.

The firmware Wampy has created is different than the original in that it brings transformation to something that was not previously there. It is transformational and beneficial. Where Mrwalkmans firmware was all about the sound and a little bit of personalization, Wampys integration adds some more personalization and QOL elements such as having a ability to change boot settings without needing an external computer. These are useful features not just ripoffs.

Think about where wed be if nobody made any firmware for these devices.

Deserved a distinct thread. But I'd hate to see good new feature/s get buried.
wampy is working with my BT headphones, or I could go wired and enjoy either or both.
Even if it only can work with the modest A55, the hobby is ever more fun.
Wasn't that the point?
