I’ve been back & forth on 3.02 and the ONE. Currently, I’m totally enjoying WM1Z on J3 with V2 & high gain! With DC phase lineaizer on Type A low and arm resonance on. You will experience an extended performance from that mod.
i haven't bought anything hi end (excluding a few mid price cables) since 2017 , so i thought i deserve myself a brand new toy

expectations are sky high , will share some impressions over at the wm1x thread once i get it

Currently in the search for a mid range headphone, which one I've been looking at are the ATH-R70x, from reviews its a very natural, smooth, non fatiguing sound signature, but they come in at a large 480 Ohm with, comparative pull to the HD600.

Anybody used these headphones specifically or know the max output the 4.4 can do and if I'll need an amp to drive them with a WM1A?

Open to other recommendations too in that price bracket

I’ve tried many headphones to match with the 1A when I first got it and the best one for me was and still is the Sony 1AM2 using the balanced port. Doesn’t require an additional amp and the 1A drives it perfectly. It gives me a full bodied sound and for the genres that I listen to it sounds fantastic. IMO, the 1AM2 is a perfect match for the 1A.

Even better, go for the MDR MV1

Hello!
Does custom firmware also affect brightness settings - I find A55 screen too bright - even with lowest setting - for night use?
No, thats just limitations of the display/backlight. Firmware cannot make that lighter or darker. The screens absolutely were not a priority when these things were manufactured, even on the WM1A individual segments can be seen, but its all worth it for sound.

It does not, and yes I totally agree

Haven’t tried that but since it’s designed for studio monitoring and accuracy, I may not like it. I like a little color and full bodied sound with decent rumble.

It is tuned very much along the lines of the MDR-Z1R

It's definitely on the more colored side, I prefer it over the mdr z1r
Hmm. I’ll give it a listen at my Sony store when I’m back in town next week. Thanks for the heads up!
