Well it's been about a week since I've emailed Mr. Walkman and he unfortunately has not sent me a reply. Would anyone happen to know a different form of commutation aside from the provided on his official website? @Queen6 Thank you for the info about DFU mode within firmware! So you're saying that it would be possible to revert my firmware from Walkman One to stock within the player itself without connecting it first to my computer? I'm not sure I understand how that would work exactly. Any info on who I I can contact/what I should do is very much appreciated, thank you!
No you still need to connect it to a computer. The dap can enter into DFU mode by some combination of button presses on boot up time but I don’t know that combination. After that some DFU software on the pc should be able to connect to the dap (unless there is an actual hw fault in the dap) and upload a boot image. I don’t have that software nor that image but MrWalkman (and presumably others) do

Hello,

The firmware is no different when it comes to the basic functions, like USB connectivity. The kernel is the same, basically there is no reason why only the Walkman One firmware would cause this kind of issues but the stock firmware wouldn't.

All the previous stuff is on some HDD that needs to be connected with some SATA adapter. It may take some time before I would manage to do anything.

The key combination is VOL DOWN + PLAY. Have the player off for at least 20-30 seconds, keep pressing these buttons, then while the buttons are pressed connect the USB cable. If you hear a new device connected in Windows, then putting the stock firmware would work, otherwise there's no point.

What others have is what they needed at that moment. I don't recommend flashing the player with random packages provided by others.

I'm interested in hearing/reading any observations on the region codes J1, J2. I can "hear" that J3 have more air to it (and a stronger bass), than J, but it gets kind of boring after a while. Any kind of description will be positively received!
I finally tried J2, it is J with added highs, which add more resolution as well. the warmth feels reduced because of the added highs, but the warm is still there. The quantity of the treble is less than J3. Bright + J3 getting me fatigued, Bright + U only got me fatigued on DT 880 and DT 700 Pro X. on J2 it is fine for 2 hours non stop.

Thank you for your reply! I did as you suggested and it worked! The player recognized my PC in DFU mode and I was able to run the StockRevert and then the official WM1 3.02 firmware afterwards. Not sure why this issue existed but I appreciate your help as well as the help of everyone else!

Ok, so the DFU mode worked, which somehow also made the normal USB mode work too.

Nice!

I don't know what it was but I did as you instructed. I turned off the player than just held volume down + play then plugged in the usb cable while holding the buttons down and I heard the USB device detected sound then afterward the USB device disconnect sound. I then I heard the USB device connect sound again and once the player fully booted up I found my player was connected to my PC as USB Mass Storage Mode (I did have Auto Mass Storage Mode selected in Device Settings).

Yes, however I no longer have the instruction. This is why the Linux based players can be revived from a seemingly dead state.

Give @MrWalkman some time and I'm sure he will offer assistance, ultimately he only has the one head and two hands..

If I go back to original firmware, what will be the best region for it ?
The one that sounds best to you. I used either J or MX3 as I recall

@nc8000 Good person, your expertise is desired.

Would you please elaborate on the following warning in the NW-WM1A/Z manual. Have people had any issues when their PC goes to sleep & wakes up and/or restarts due to an update? Per chance, is this something that Mr. Walkman's Walkman One firmware addresses as well (thinking not as it may be strictly a hardware issue at play)?

How realistic is it to use the WM1A as a semi-permanent plug-in and forget device on a PC using the USB DAC Mode? Any/all feedback would be appreciated.

No idea, I’ve never used any of my Walkmen like that, always as a stand alone dap and sometimes as a BT receiver. The only time they are connected to my pc is when I transfer music to them

I think the intended use case of WM1A/Z or any other Sony Walkman is as a portable audio player, USB DAC Mode is usable for using it while charging the device (connected to PC/Laptop), once the power is full, one can unplug and continue as a portable player. Other use case is as a DAC for a streaming device, for example if you want to listen from Spotify or Tidal (from a handphone or a PC/Laptop), you can plug it as a DAC or using the bluetooth mode (don't use V2 for this use case).

The reason is because there is a battery connected, and if you keep plugging it, there is a risk that the battery becomes overcharged and it is not good for the health of the battery, there was an occasion where I keep it plugged in to a PC and battery care option turned on to transfer some music, when I unplug it and restart it, I found that the battery is above 90% (inside the boot log).
