Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

Thanks for all your great work MrWalkman. Downloading your lastest for NW-40 now :)
Is there a way to make a option for the player at boot not creating database?
Like to have this done once, but then if you do not add any new files it do not create it again, with faster cold boot as result.

I have tried the "Neutral" and "Warm" for 2 days, next is bright and "WM1Z", that obviously the last one. My favorite is neutral and warm.
Your feedback is very interesting. What region do you use for your tests?

This is how it works. If you haven't changed the data, it's faster vs. rebuilding from scratch. I set my players to shut off after 24 hrs inactivity which I think is a good compromise, but you might want to switch it off, so no rebuilding takes place.

Doing warm and neutral on the WM1Z. Direct Source. The sound is incredible really! Such natural and authoritative bass. I don’t think I’ll tire of it over time? I don’t see how?

Big soundstage and spacious tone, nothing out of place really!

Unbelievable as vocals are not in quite the same place as the WM1A, but that’s understandable. I’ve been listening to the WM1A the last two weeks....straight. Nothing wrong with the vocals they just don’t have the staging of the upper midrange of the 1A., but the WM1Z shows a little more instrumental style? I like the reverb too, as it’s not drawn out or artificial? Just right! Echoes of drums and separation of all elements!

Great little accents in places?
Cheers!

Edit: At times some very bad recording somehow seem even worse? But I don’t really listen to them that much? But guitar is really a lot like Midnight v2 (for 1A) MX3 (normal) where it is crunchy and prominent. Great!

Funny as the bass is subdued and in the pocket, which is an add to the WM1Z. It’s not thin but not heavy either? It’s fast?

Edit:

Turns out this was only MX3? Lol. Never tried it!

Nice, though are you using "Warm" or "Neutral"?

They just have the same external tuning, but they're actually 2 different signatures.

I have tried the "Neutral" and "Warm" for 2 days, next is bright and "WM1Z", that obviously the last one. My favorite is neutral and warm. The neutral is the best for someone who wants to "normalize" your signature gear sound if that warm it will less warm and if bright it will less bright all become more neutral, the magic in the equalizer if you tune use bass-mid-high, the impact is so soft and never overwhelming with another instrument/low-mid-high, I think between the warm and bright the neutral has more soundstage, and feels wide, so it's best for long seasons listening. And one more finally I got the best setting for my EX-1000 I use the spiral dot ++, oyaide hpc 26, jack oyaide, generic mmcx on warm, plus v2, another DAC setting its really improve lowering the treble peak, and really good on neutral, plus v2, another DAC setting.

The one I want to try is setting "WM1Z", so what is the base stock firmware signature setting "WM1Z"?
I want to compare the mods Walkman One "WM1Z" and actual stock firmware/ base sound on WM1Z.

The base WM1Z sound is of course with all other settings disabled.

Based on this log portion, it looks like the "WM1Z" signature.

You can also confirm in the Unit Info menu.

No, you first need to change the signature in the settings file, then restart the player, then apply the corresponding tuning.

But it's great!

Thank-you, I'll try that too.

It works with Mac too!
