But to put that in context, it is still the most fluid and fast UI in a dap currently available, (even bests the AK240). Yes the latest smart phone is a bit faster, they have quad core cpu's vs the dual core in the ZX1, and they also use a lot more battery. Sony made a good choice with the ZX1 balancing high performance with battery life, most other dap's use much slower cpu's than the ZX1 still.

Ah yes true, but also coming from using Android since the first Galaxy S - which was what, 4 year ago? - and iPod Classics and the NWZ-A867 (fast in general but soooo slow with playlists) I'm quite happy how responsive the system is AS A WHOLE, at the same time with how advanced touch screen technology is now and maybe compared to other similar Androids the touch screen is one of the only things I have a tiny niggle with.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but I'm guessing Sony is marketing this as a mainstream entry into the audiophile world, and maybe it's just an issue with the music app but for me I was just a bit taken aback how multiple taps wouldn't respond when my previous experiences with touch screens has been so consistent. So for me it's not really a question of high performance/battery life, but the quality of the touch operations. Like you can see the app feeding back as an entry turns blue when you touch it... so it seems the player is keeping up but for some reason it doesn't play the track.

I will try to fix it once I get my ZX1 if I can get my hands on the kernel source. It's been done before on device like Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100) and Nexus 4. The OEM reduces the digitizer sensitivity to save battery, but this results in increased delay from your finger movement/contact to visual feedback. For people like myself who tend to interact very fast with the interface, it can be very bothersome and makes muscle memory difficult to form. When I cranked up my i9100 digitizer to max it would detect my finger 1/2cm before it touches the screen lol (hardly usable, I settled for 50% of max which detected my finger 0.5mm above the screen). And if anyone is concerned, the i9100 still works perfectly, three years later =)

As many seem to miss native DSD support, have you noticed this update?

At least it applies to the European model. So there should be one out there for Japanese as well? (Should also be available through the devices software update feature)

Nice. Scorpion have you rooted this yet? I'm tempted more because I'd love to hear V4A on this unit.

I have to save a bit before I can afford the ZX1. Just purchased an X5 recently which set me back a tad. Canadian import taxes tend to be brutal. I'm looking at $900~$950 after import taxes AFAIK

HI everyone, I will be visiting Japan in June for a few weeks. Where is the best place to pick up a zx or perhaps an f series walkman?
I was also wondering about the power and charging these devices.  Japan is on 100 and north america is 110.  Is this a problem?
Thanks again.

I have the Japanese version, live in the US. No charging issues.

Do the newly shipped ZX-1 have the old software or the new updates installed?

probably not, but upgrades are very simple.

Here's the official European manual:

Especially enjoyed this section, explaining some of the technologies & accessories:

Some hints:

DSEE HX:

Also some sample Hi-Res files:
http://helpguide.sony.net/high-res/sample1/v1/en/index.html

Found a note regarding battery life with Hi-Res:
  1. Battery life when playing High-Resolution music files with the NWZ-F880 series is approximately 26 hours with 96 kHz/24 bit FLAC recordings, approximately 17 hours with 192 kHz/24 bit FLAC recordings, and approximately 10 hours with 2.8224 MHz/1 bit DSD recordings (with noise canceling and Bluetooth turned off at every sampling rate). With the NWZ-ZX1, it is approximately 25 hours with 96 kHz/24 bit FLAC recordings, approximately 16 hours with 192 kHz/24 bit FLAC recordings, and approximately 10 hours with 2.8224 MHz/1 bit DSD recordings (with Bluetooth turned off at every sampling rate)
And some on burn-in:

  1. With the NWZ-ZX1, sound quality will change little by little after start of use and stabilize after about 100 hours of use due to characteristics of its “OS-CON”1) and “POSCAP”1) capacitors.

Anak-Chan is best to ask where to pick up a ZX1 in Japan.

All Walkmans are charged via USB so you should have no problem... here in UK I tend to charge my ZX1/F887 via USB/Mains-plug which is rated at 240v.

Price-Japan will mark down value of F-88X & ZX1 for Customs normally to $110... you get two delivery options Courier or EMS (both tracked), using EMS your parcel will arrive to your national postal-service, in the UK that means you'll be hit for about £30 ($50) in Customs, delivery is 7-10 days... using the Courier service for some reason you don't get hit for Customs in the UK, delivery is 5-days, hth.
