SONY NWZ-A10 Series

Me too I want to buy the oppo Ha-2 and use my A17 using the Fiio L5 while i search for a digital IN sony cable

There is the Sony cable, but if you want to bypass both the DAC and amp in the A17 and use the Oppo (and why wouldn't you?) you need to also have a USB to micro USB adapter that takes the Sony cable out (full size USB) and then connects to the micro USB input on the Oppo. I am seriously considering seeing if somebody can't take a Sony cable and re-terminate it with a micro USB.

the sony really is the traveler's best friend. in 2 weeks abroad I can't stop thinking about how convenient that thing is.
a universal charging plug would seal the deal.

You still need to take the Sony digital feed out so I'm not sure how you intend to get that into the Oppo? All of the cables I hear of terminate in full USB not micro. Can you post a picture of the cable you are going to use from the A17 to the HA 2? Thanks.

How is the 24-bit upgrade of this album sounding?

So far so good, I can hear the cembalo more clear (Harpsichord) lush an dbeuatiful natural sounding, the kettle drums too become clear, nice attack so precise, i feel more air in this orhestra

EDIT: The solo viola da gamba is super clear in this 24/88 so nice job alia vox did on the remaster of this astree LP, i chose to keep the original astree cover

Why my walkman is displaying in detailed info a field called Tempo with "Unknown", well i don't have a tempo tag in my flac, unnecessary IMHO but is not used for a sony function like digital speed control? or sens-me?

People equipped with very efficient IEMs or headphones - those capable of delivering their best performance (or at least a satisfying performance) with the A17's amp providing only 10 mW into a 16-Ohm load - could surely find themselves content to run the A17 without an external amp, as long as they also like the signature of Sony's proprietary DAC.

But, yes!  That's a great idea for those with headphones that need more power - to have a custom cable crafted - modifying the Sony WMC-NWH10 to go directly to a right-angled USB Micro B male connector for the OPPO HA-2.

In the absence of a custom cable, here's an off-the-shelf solution:

^ An adapter like this can be used in lieu of the OPPO-included accessory cable, a USB A male -to- USB Micro B male.

Well, after comparing to my F887 for a couple hours, let's just say I closed it's listing and won't be going anywhere. I'll be keeping both devices, for now. The clip+ is still for sale, though, lol.

I'll try to write a detailed comparison when I have some extra time.

Looking forward to the comparisons. I have the F887 as well and I'm thinking of getting the ZX1 or the A10 because of storage space. If the A10's sound quality is the same or better than the F887 I will definitely get that.

G'day Mike,
Problem with using a solution like that adapter, is your going to put huge stress on the main board and plug,
the smallest of pressure at the plug will have a leverage affect on the tiny micro usb plug and destroy it in no time.
I recommend not using it.

^ I agree.  The closer a flexible cable resides to the jack itself, the less damage can be done to the jack over time.  Using the OPPO-provided USB A -to- USB Micro B cable would be better for those who don't handle their gear with finesse.  And ultimately, a custom terminated WMC-NWH10 would be better still - with a right-angle plug.

I've never been one to make "bricks" out of my portable gear, as I tend to bounce between two extremes:

Situations where I want to have a compact, lightweight solution...

or situations where I want portability, but can leisurely connect everything together in a stationary environment, where I have little concern for stressing cables and connectors...

But yes, for those who intend to stack and cable components for handling them on the go, your point is well taken.

Thanks,

Mike
